Well that all depends on what you are putting it in, and what your plans for it are.

For example are you going to turbo it?
Different engines are good for different things. Give me some more info about what exactly you want, and I'll give you my best advice.

Welcome to SHO!!!
B20/Vtec, hands down (Ex. B20B Block and B16A head)
I agree with v00tecsi, it depends on how much money you can spend and also what you want out of the motor. Hands down most power for NA, I would say a CRV/VTEC. If you want nice power NA or for FI and have the money B18C1 (GSR motor). If you want good value for your money and don't have a lot of cash to spend a b16 motor is good. If you have a big budget, a b18C5 (ITR motor) is very nice. I like the b16 motor, lots of potential, but I personally, would get a bigger displacement motor, either 1.8 or 2.0 liter block. You can do a nice LS/VTEC setup and get the higher torque gains also. Whatever you do, have a plan. Make up your mind and figure out if you wanna stay "all motor" or go FI Turbo/supercharger. You will save yourself lots of PAIN and MONEY if you figure out exactly what you want before you go and do it.. Good luck.

I swaped in a JDM R Motor in my ebp 00 si
and i love it because it still has the stock feel..you cant even feel the motor while it idles, and best of all it's a pretty fast little ride.
If you dont like a car that shakes, vibrates and smells and makes all kinda noise then an R is nice..The b18cr is a great platform for building aswell.Shoot a set of cams can give you just as much Whp as a STANDARD b20/vtec.
Plus you Have lsd and a 4.7 final drive!!!!!!!!!!!!
its a hands Hands down choice for me!:)
Honestly if i could get away with it I would put in a JDM H22. Lots of torque and a lot of HP. But there would be smog problems and a bunch of other shit I would have to deal with
hey b18sir...is 15.2 ur time w/ the setup u jus talked about. cuz i have seen Si's do much better w/ jus the b16 and very little mods.
If you want only straightline performance I would say H23/vtec. The most power you can get out of 4cyl. honda motors.

My motor is stock except for the ACT,AEM,And Exaust.
That 15.2 run there was my second run ever,my reaction time was.773 and 60 foot was 2.4. Im sure if i beat the shit out of it a little harder I could pull some mid 14's,but my trap speed's pretty much spoke for them self's.I also use the usdm header and suck at driving. No excusses here just the truth..:)
Actualy the B20Z and B cost the same, the Z is just the 96 and up models blocks. And my friend is going to run a B20/Vtec combo in his turbocharged 99 DX hatch. It should turn all most 700 HP. The B20/Vtec still produces more HP then even the Type R or S H22A engines, and it weighs less. So like I said, CRVtec is the best swap for any application.

But since it's newer, it probably has fewer miles, so it should go for a few dollars more.

The Z has slightly higher compression, same torque but a few more horses.

Has anyone priced a full B20 setup with rods/pistons machine work, oil lines, etc, etc... I've budgeted about $2000 to $2500 for this and hope to make it by summer.

now thats a smart move :) blow up your si engine so you can get a jdm b18c :) sorry for calling you stupid:p

ps: what kinda driver are you? stock itr can run 14's easy :)
You would be lucky to get any block with less then 30,000 miles on it, newer or older. The ones I can get are rebuilt with at the most 30,000 miles on the. Well this is what another one of my friends is doing to put a B20B in his 93 hatch. First by a SiR1 full engine with trany for like $1-1500 (You could buy a SiR2 motor, but it will cost you more). a B20B block, $800. Oil line $50, head gasket $50, mill work $50. Now thats $1950 - $2450, with every thing you need. And minus $200 or so for how much you can sell a SiR1 block for. But you can mix and match any B series heads or tranies. I belive the GSR trany is the best for the CRVtec. And the Type R head is a little better then the B16A's but way more costly.
Its cool bro!!!
i suck at driving I have only made 2 passes at the track!!
.777 R/t
2.4 60 FT
I know its there!!
