I need to find a good converter that can help me turn:

.APE files into .MP3 files
.AVI files into DVD Mpeg Files
.MP3 files into .WMA files

etc etc.....

I can't find any out there that can do this......and the ones I do find want a crapload of cash!

Any recommendations?

use tmpgenc to convert avi to mpeg. i've used this a few times.
http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_main.html

you will need tmpgenc dvd author or some other program if you want to convert mpeg to dvd. also download virtualdub. it makes a great complimentary to tmpgenc since most avi files may need to be converted to a standardlized format. virtualdub will convert avi such as xvid or dvix to a standard format avi so tmpgenc can read it properly. it'll save you some time.

use windows media encoder to convert to mp3 to wma. this is what i use.

i believe there is a plug-in that you can download on www.winamp.com that supports .ape and may let u convert it to mp3.

try this:
http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details.php?id=96985

"The plugin supports MP3, Ogg Vorbis (now both commandline support), wav, raw pcm, FLAC and APE (Monkey's Audio) as output formats"

so i'm assuming if you can play an .ape file in winamp you can write it out to an mp3.

aditional help websites:

hope that helps.

Install plug in. restart winamp. go to Options > Preferences > Plugin > Output > choose the File Writer plug-in. click on the configure button. choose your destination folder and your format. click ok.

now play the song you want to convert. you should hear nothing. once the song is done, it should have created an mp3 file in your destination folder.

remember to go back to the output preferences and change it back to direct sound output when you're done(so you can listen to music).
