Big Brakes

I'm looking to get a big brake kit, for looks. I really like the Baer Track system but I don't know what the price is. I also like AEM's kit, but is there any truth to the rotors warping easily? Anybody have any suggestions or anything? Oh yeah I have 17's.

bed in the new rotors correctly...and no warping will be experienced.

Good Luck, the Baers are nice...a little too pricey for me. The AEM will get the job done.
Hey hayman

while we are on the topic of upgrading breaks and larger rotors, I have a question about size= matters? Alright well, I plan on having drag slicks on a small set of steelies, maybe 15 inches?? Well anyway i plan on running mickey thompson wrinkle walls (not sure if i want tubless yet) but anyway, my car is a street car with a good amount of work done to it. I plan on upgrading my front breaks/rotors and i see all the big companies (AEM, wildwood, R1 racing) make "big-ass" break rotors. I want this extra stopiing power for when im on the steets (and on track) but the problem is, will my drag slick setup fit over these oversized rotors? Whats the deal here, how are all these drag cars running stock breaks with these little drag slicks. Is it possible to run the AEM big brake kit with slicks? Thanks and good luck with your car, ive seen your ocasional visit in the turbo forums (where i hang out) and i wish you luck on your setup this winter... Keep me posted on ur work man!!
The names Jayman not hayman...Haha j/k, now lets get started.

The size of the rotor is not the only way to increase stopping power. If the caliper has the ability to have a more contact-patch with the rotor than stopping power is greatly reduced.

This is one of the companies that make a stock crossdrilled/slotted rotor with oversized calipers. Its wieght has been reduced noticeably as well.

Here it is WillWood drag brake kits:

Honda/Acura: 1994-2001 Civic/Integra, with OEM 10 1/4 in. front brakes, Big Brake kit

Get track-ready performance and high tech style with this Big Brake kit from Wilwood. This competition brake kit is loaded with cutting edge disc brake technology, and provides the perfect look when upgrading your wheels, tires, or suspension equipment. Billet Dynalite four-piston calipers provide big clamping power in a truly lightweight and reliable design. A high luster, black anodized finish provides excellent corrosion resistance and long term preservation of their appearance. Other features include zinc plated, cross-drilled, and face-slotted vented rotors for reduced weight and increased cooling area, and PolyMatrix "D" compound brake pads. Each kit is a complete bolt-on without the need to modify any of the stock brake or suspension components, and includes billet aluminum mounting brackets, aluminum hats, premium grade hardware, and instructions.

Its 10 1/4 inch rotor will enable you to fit those small steelies and you wont have to have a minimal 16" rim size.

Beautiful ehh?

Thanks for the reply Jayman haha.

I never knew a company actually made breaks especially to hold slicks. Im so happy i can finally get better breaks w/o the worry. Do you know how much this kit is?? I bet its pricey, wildwood tends to be expensive.
So have you decided to custom make your turbo or just get a kit? Ive got the T3/T04e from turbonetics on the drag kit an its nice... Drop in the motor yet? Lol i like the pic in ur profile
I beg to differ about the AEM Big Brake Kit getting the job done. I have the kit and have already had AEM replace my front rotors twice due to warpage problems that they say is unexplainable. I have had the brakes installed at 3 different shops all of which have been authorized by AEM to do the proper installation. My third set, the set I have one my car know has warpped again. I do not brake hard unless absolutely necessary. The rotors were broke in properly.

I would suggest staying away from AEM, the problem is that they are more for show than they are for performance. There is absolutely no need for a x-drilled rotor and frankly very little need for a slotted rotor. I have done a lot of research after the fact and wish I knew everything I knew now when I was buying the AEM's.

My recommendation is to look into the fastbrakes kit. They offer an 11 integra rotor redrilled to a 4-lug which a little bigger caliper, off of a V6 accord or prelude. The rotors are 11" in the front, not sure about the back setup. They will fit under 15" wheels, another disadvantage of the AEM's, nothing under 17". Trust me it really sucks when you get a flat and you have to call a tow truck cuz your spare can't fit on. Hope all this helps. I know that other people have had problems with AEM as well.

Did YOU Torque your Lugnuts? And what type of driving did you do?

Absolutely 100% AGREED!

Agreed again, not that I have any personal experience with them but, for general practicality over the AEM's they just make sense.

Don't get me wrong, I am for brake upgrades just not huge tuner upgrades with unnecessary cross drilling that REQUIRE those obligatory Bling Wheels. I'd stick with some Brembo Blanks, Goodridge lines with Hawk HP+'s or Black's and Castrol fluid. Theres just No need for bigger brakes and certainly NOT Crossdrilled and for the most of you not even slotted.

For looks, I'd guess just get what looks nice and blingy...

I always torque my wheels to 80 ft-lbs and I just doing normal street driving. I was thinking that my problem might be coming from the fact that I go to school on a very steep hill so when I get in the car that brakes don't have time to warm up before they have huge pressure applied because of the hills. I was thinking that maybe a shock of some sort was occuring when the cold pad hits the cold rotor. I'm no expert on this topic though. What do you think?
yeah..one of the reasons I stayed away from AEM is the fact that nothing under a 17 inch rim will have clearance....
hey i'm not saying AEM rotors are great but you can have plenty of clearance with a 16" rim, no spacer either. using the AEM rotors and the stock calipers i ran 16x7's for 2 months this summer without problems.

not a bad rotor setup but the Fastbrakes and Wilwood setups are much nicer.
