I've seen a Camaro w/ black tail lights and an M3 w/ black tails ... so I'm guessing they're legal. There're a grip of cars/ trucks w/ black headlights ... Anyway, anyone know where I could find these for a 96 civic coupe ... or maybe somewhere to custom fab them.

P.S. I don't want black housing algayzzas, must be black lense ...

I'm pretty sure they are illegal, especially if they are not DOT approve and someone runs into you, that could be their defense.

I noticed Mercedes C230 Kompressor have smoke tail lights from factory.

Just a thought.
I have smoke taillights but just for the white lens part, and I keep my amber turn signal bulbs though.

There are a few stock & legal cars out there w/blacked out taillights. RX-7's... those old Chevy Berettas.. but I think those have brighter bulbs to compensate for the tint. I am guessing...

As for as legality is concerned, several police officers told me that they are illegal. Getting ticketed is one thing, but getting rear ended & getting screwed for fault is not worth it.

well they aren't illegal in st. louis. i've seen 1 civic with those blackouts and it looked pretty good. i had a chance to talk to the guy, and he had them custom made for the tails and headlights. i don't think they manufacture them for wholesale.

ask you local police.. usually it would be illegal.. and stock cars that come w/ smoked tail lens are legal because they came w/ the car..
