Brake Rotor's and Pads

1687 Views 12 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  sonictronic
When braking between 60mph down to 40mph I feel shaking in my car (you can see the golve compartment door shaking) the thing is I just got my pads changed about 2 months ago and I'm wondering if this is a sign that my rotors are warped?

If I need to change them what type of pad/rotor combo should I go with? Should I just wait until I get my rims in 2 months to change the braking system?

where did you go to get your brakes done? did they check to make sure your rotors were within spec? if they weren't they should have told you. and if they did you should have had it done then. its not gonna matter if you change them now or later, unless you plan on going with a Big Brake kit, wihich I'm thinking your not.
a lil shaking is normal, from braking at that speed, and depending how fast you are braking....

My car doesn't shake.. I brake from those speeds all the time..
I got them done at the Acura dealer and he said the rotors were fine at the time I put the pads in but when I got a brake check done last week he said that I'd probably have to get the rotors changed in a month or so.

I would go with the big brake kit but I really don't feel like spending $2000 for brakes *yet*. After I do a few more things to my car I'll think about the BB kit.
Your pads may have un-even wear or your rotors may be warped.

It didn't always shake, it's like it just started within the past few months, that's why I'm guessing it's to rotors. I would really like to wait on getting new rotors until I get my larger rims but I'm still uncertain on which rotors and pads to go for.

If you are just going to use stock diameter, which I think you should unless if you do autocrossing, then just go with Brembo replacement cross-drilled rotors. They will give you more braking power and less chance of warping. Reasonable price too.

I thought X-drilled were more prone to cracking?

Make that around 3000 cause you can't run an AEM BB kit without at least 17in wheels;)

That happens when you use the wrong pads with them. But the stock civic pads are ok.

Wilwood has a 15in kit.
I have a similar problem. My steering wheel shakes when i brake from speeds 70-120. I just replaced (about 2 weeks ago) my pads with raybestos pads and i got some crossdrilled rotors from my local shop. But when i stop from 60 and below it does just fine. Could this be related to an alignment problem because i also put hp racing coilovers on at the same time and havent had a chance to get to the alignment shop.
