JR claims that you need one of those short-ram, thicker intakes... but wouldnt a CAI help lower intake temps?

well here is the deal... they do dyno tests with the hood open.

doesnt get hot! now, JR, or shall i say moss motors makes a short ram intake... SO... they decided to use those results to help them. In the REAL WORLD, you will gain much more power from a CAI.

The best combo is a 3'' cold air intake, that way you get the cold charge and it's not restricted...just my thought

Go 3" CAI. FWIW, the Injen intakes work great, they are 3", and you should then buy a fairly inexpensive Cold Air Extension (to make it a CAI) which is also 3". Some good prices I saw were at www.overboost.com. I've felt quite a bit of improvement with this setup.

Damn, I just traded my AEM CAI for a Comptech short ram.

It's a good thing you did too because that AEM is only 2.5" and is too restrictive. That comptech short ram would probably go nicely with that comptech ice box. Gvtec has one of those and noticed a significant decrease in temps.
