Can you make a ZC fast?

... going the fully built N/A route? I am aiming for low-mid 13's. I really like my ZC, but it needs something more. I was thinking about dropping a B16, but, for the price of the motor, mounts, ect, ect, ect... I could work on the ZC (I want to stay NA)? Wutcha'll think, ZC + $3000?

I'm no expert, but getting a zc motor to run 13's NA would be hard...a 13.9 is doable all motor...but solid 13's??? getting b16a to run solid 13's still takes some work. Your looking at at least 2 grand for a rebuild with headwork, pistons, rods, balanced crank. You'll need to get cams for it...custom ground cams can be done but it might take some experimenting. Yes hks makes them for the zc...but they are about a grand, and they would be too mild for your application. If you really want to stick with a NA motor then you should start with a better base...me personaly I'm gunna go turbo with my zc...that's my way to the 13's. Good luck
13's N would be tough.

Are you looking for a streetable or drag car. That would a HUGE difference. If street than I would advice rethinkig your goals and how much money you want to spend. Ifyou ar looking at drag than you migt want to consider a B18 or h22 for a stronger base.

zc's can be fast, any motor can be fast its just a matter of$$
man goto the place in MD and buy a b16 like i am doing hopefully i should be driving down the first full week of march to get it
all im saying is IVAN GET A B16 ITS EASIER TO DO 13s not as much $$ as it would for teh zc u figure sell teh zc to some kid and start building a 13 sec car i hope by mario fest ill be in the 13s i dont see y not
Had a zc in my 4dr but swapped it out for the b16. It was like night and day. The zc was quick and all but the b16 just has that extra mid and top end.:) It is going to be tough to get solid 13's N/A with only 3000 dollars. JMO though.:)

not really he can get a b16 motor trans and ecu for 900 near him pick it up... get a skunk2 intake man for less than 300 thats 1200 so far 410 for mounts and linkage shipped... thats 1610 right..... so he gets some itr cams bout 400 used if he searches and he should thats 2010 ...... then he gets intake i think he has already and exhuats he has already if i remember right....then he gets a new head gasket thinner means more compression= more hp a mugen one is 120 so figure 120 in there 2130... get some cam gears 200 at most for them say 150.. thats 2280... get a header say it costs him 400 at most 2680.... plus sell teh zc thats 400 bucks or so with tranny maybe more add that 2280 again... buy some vavle springs and retainers with the rest and have some left over for little goodiessuch as matience parts have it in the high 13s soon after all that dont quote me on prices
there are other things that you can do to your car to run faster times. And i mean to your CAR, not the actual motor...

-reduce unsprung weight (lighter rims...even aluminum of magnesium lugs)
-stickier n' wider tires (if you have 185/60/14 go to 195/55/14, or 205/45/15. Use the plus sizing wisely)
-z-10 makes some traction bars n' radius arms that will shave a lot of your 60' time (as they say)
-reduce weight (cf hood, lighter smaller battery, no subs etc)
-and one of the best things to do...an LSD. The LSD may be the thing to shave off .3 + seconds, depending on how bad/good your traction is right now from the launch, 1-2 shift, n' 2-3 shift(something i need badly)

pretty much the basic stuff...but it'll all add up
how bout turbo/nos/supercharger......

You talking about Ellis Racing? Yea... I guess the B16 swap seems more realistic, its just a bitch savin all that $$$....

Get your self a drag gen 2 turbo kit for your zc it will probably be best value for money then when u save up some more add nos and forged pistons i dont think 220bhp is too much to ask from this lot that would run 13sec easy. Drag turbo kit is 2999 from importparts.com
instead of using times as your goal try using the amount of money your willing to spend then calculate a resonable time.

there was a guy running a d16a6 (stock si) he had every single thing done to it imaginable. and he was running mid 10s on good if not great days. i think he was on **********.

my goal is 13.9 with only 3 grand invested.
b16 itr cams and zex. and misc. . . i think it might be possible.
my car is mostly for track racing and daily driving until i get another car then its going to stay in the garage.

Ya...that works if he's going to do all the work himself....and won't need a shop to do any of it (which he most likely will)....so another 2-3 grand in labor :)
i have a fealling i know Ivan and his TEAM FU and they would all work together to put it in he has a zc it didnt just jump in there but u have a point if u get shit done at a shop figure that stuff in
Head work, cams, upped compression, lightened flywheel, and lsd would get you closer to your goal.

I think it is possible..
I have a friend ZC n/a (W/nos setup) on a civc dx hit 13 somthing...(without using nos)
But, i prefer go for turbo
