Changing Color of Light in Temperature Control

1395 Views 14 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  pushVTEC
I read somewhere once that there was a way to change the color of the lights that control your heat. Could anyone tell me how to do this, or point me somewhere that does?

yes it is, but it's no longer in a Si ;)

yeah but that's not what the dude asked. he's asking about changing the regular console color to a different color, not about how to swap in an si console. as in different colored bulbs.

don't cry buddy it's ok. my point (if you're too thinkskulled to figure it out) is that he's not asking about how to swap in an si console he's asking how to change the color to a custom color. it's not that hard to understand what i wrote.
you could probably get some of those transparent colored sheets that are used for reports and what not. just cut it to the right size, pull the old screen out and put that in its place. set it there with some super glue or something and you're set.

now ive never done this, but in theory it SHOULD work.
i don't suppose an si console like that would swap into a 96-98 series? i've always wanted the dials instead of my gay slide bar.

Me too.. I wouldn't think it would work b/c ours has the 'gay slide bars' which are attatched to the little bars.. I think the 99-00 is all electronic.. not sure though

i concur ;)
i used to do that in grade school with my calculator. so that should work for the stereo screen, but i don't get how to get behind the actual a/c and heat controls you know? and the other lighting for the volume/station/mode and stuff for the stereo too? i'm gonna change the bulbs behind the gauge cluster though.

Good luck with the gauge cluster.. Please let me know how you do it.. I can't find bulbs that size that come in colors, let alone find the bulbs in clear..

To get the ac/heating control out you have to take apart the whole dash.. I'm halfway there right now since I reprogrammed my keyless entry (I have an aftermarket radio, stock one is behind the dash).. Maybe if I get bored I'll take it completely out and screw with it to see if I can change the colors..
so if i understand correctly, i would need to take apart the entire dash? If so could someone point me in the right direction of how to do this because i have no idea. Then should i just use the method spankaveli suggested once i can get behind the a/c controls?

you can but then you won't have a/c. the a/c controller on the 96-98 is controlled by a cable, and on 99-00 it's digitally controlled. other than the a/c thing it'd work.
