So I was at the local pep boys picking up some things when saw a K&N airfilter there for sale. Now I know that K&N makes quality products, so when I got home I was looking at my engine and wondered, "Hm, would taking the stock intake air filter/box out and replacing it with the K&N filter be a cheaper alternative for shelling out the money for a short ram intake?"

I know that the sri basically is just a tube with a filter on the end, so would this be a good alternative to spending more for the actual SRI?

As far as intakes go. You can go with an ebay intake, and get a nice filter for it. The only difference from brand names would be that they are not thermally coated. But you can do it yourself as well with paint or with special tape or foam.
