"clicking/creaking" sound heard? help

While engaging 1st and 2nd gear I can hear what I guess is best described as a "clicking/creaking" sound from what seems like the passenger side engine bay area. It doesn't matter what my rpm's are, but it does only seem to happen in those 2 gears. I haven't touched the stock suspension or tranny. only a short shifter.

I'm not sure if it is related to a low RPM vibration rattle that I seem to be getting if I start up in 2nd (due to snow and/or icy conditions).

I'm taking it by the dealer tom. for an oil change and just figured I'd ask here to see if anyone had an idea b4 going in.

is this your 1st standard transmission???....maybe your grinding gears...just my 2 cents...not dissing you but when I learned ( years ago) I had to change 1st and 2nd gears due to excessive wear.....that was on a stick on the column...( imagen how old that car was)....good luck....

grinding gears? nah. I'm not as old as you,:D but I've been driving stick for 6 years now (88 rx7, 97 SER, and the 00 Si). I even know about the super secret hill start using the hand brake.:D

Took it in, the honda tech thought it _might_ be an axle prob. I'll find out soon enough. He did ask me if I've slid into any curbs or similar though...which was a no.
Does it only happen when cold? Perhaps it could be a creaky motor mount. Does it happen when you are rough and kind of "jerk" the whole drivetrain?

I betting it's a motor mount
does it happen when you release the clutch in those gears, or only once the car is moving?
huh, I'll tell you what it supposedly is, and I even checked that morning before bringing it in. It was my homemade cold air box. As the engine torques it moves a little and in the process moves the DAC which I guess is now hitting metal somewhere. I put rubber edge guard around it when I first installed it but I guess its still hitting somewhere. As soon as its a bit warmer I'll have to take a look at it.

Talk about pissing me off. especially when the tech writes: "clicking sound is from air filter hitting makeshift CAI".
it ain't no makeshift piece. take a look at my link, I think I did a pretty slick job on it and it seems to make a difference too.

oh well, sorry to have wasted anyone's time.
