Yeah it could be your release bearing making some noise. Keep in mind that even when your car is in neutral your clutch is engaged. Your clutch clamps the flywheel and stops it from spinning in order to allow you to switch from one gearing group to another. When you are in neutral and your clutch is in to allow you to switch to another gear you are not engaged in a gear but the clutch is working to keep the car in neutral.
Go back and grease all the bearings properly and definitely go back and locktite the flywheel and pressure plate bolts. Keep in mind that if one of those bolts backs out it could destroy your clutch, flywheel, transmission, axles, and even your engine depending on the conditions of the failure. I don't think you want that to happen do you? A little more time and effort now will likely save you some serious money and possibly your life.....I'm telling you now, you don't want an 18lb flywheel shooting out of your engine at 7000rpm. Instant death!

Yes, if your foot is off of the clutch pedal and the car is in neutral then the clutch is not engaged. However, the flywheel is still spinning since it doesn't stop until the clutch engages the pressure plate to clamp the clutch disc and stop the flywheel. So, the bearings are still moving...winding down...which would cause noise if they are not lubricated.

As far as a tranny jack goes you could make one on the cheap by buying a regular hydraulic jack and getting some 2x6 wood boards and balancing the tranny on that while you lower it down out of the engine. Or you could rent a jack. But you really should get in there and grease the bearings and locktite the flywheel and pressure plate bearings.
