Coilovers vs. Springs!

3028 Views 29 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  94exsedanvtec
I got 17's (205/40/17) today and I wanna drop my car.

I have a 2" drop Progress springs right now.

Should I just put them on or buy Coilovers?

Actually I'm also thinking to buy KYB Shocks.

I drive a '00 EX.

Please let me know.

Thanks.

youre def. gonna need a camber kit and shox. keep the springs if you arent gonna want to mess w/ the height all the time.
i say u should keep your springs, unless u want to slam your car sometimes. the kyb agx arent made to hold springs that are more than 1.5

Oh....what should I do?
go for some better shocks like koni yellows or tokico illuminas, those two are ride adjustable too, only get coilovers if you are going to use it, or it would just be a waste, i think like 2-2.5 is enough, i have a 1.5 drop and not happy at all

Hey UCRaccordv6,

Got any pics of your drop?
koni yellow will do fine, or you will be messing with the coilover too much like me, any ppl tell you to lower it till look good, slap him/her for me..but if look is all you care...then whatever...
2-2.5 is too much, it might look good, but that's about it
im not gonna beat a dead horse, i pretty much agree with the above but, the tokico illumina you cant drop over 1.5" on without voiding the warranty...and i think the AGX are stronger....but thats my opinion
Lowering your car

I think 2 1/2" is perfect drop.

I've lowered my car 3 1/2" in front and 3" in rear..and the ride
is very bumpy!! Not to mention I can't go over speed bumps!!

I need to get some coil over soon..

Anyone got any good recommendation?

P.S. Check out my pic below... picture quality is poor, I"ll
work on it next time

if you want some coilover sleeves, then get ground controls. if you want full coilovers, go w/ a good brand like apexi or tein.

or Zeal, or H&R or Bilstein...etc.
How do you guys drop so low...On half the shocks...esp prelude you would be riding on the bump stops...even cut 1/3 down with over a 2.25 inch drop:confused:

heres a link, kinda hard to see though
I just put ground controls on my car last weekend. I love them and would highly recommend them. Very nice ride.
UCRaccordV6:

It don't look that bad..(your drop)! But a lil bit more would definately look tight.

Thanks for the reply.
UCRaccordV6

I think your car could used another 1/2 -1" drop.
But I doubt you can go over any speeds bumps though.

Heck just do it :) Drive slowly!
I don't really see any point in spending the money on coilovers (true coilovers) for you, unless you race your car (on track).

If you stay with the 2" drop Progress springs, then I would get some Koni Yellows, or some Bilstein shocks (either Heavy Dutys or Sports depending on what they make for your car).
Also, you may have to roll your fenders to keep your tires from rubbing with the 17s and a 2" drop.

Same boat as you!! Not happy with the drop from Neuspeed Sports (2 finger in the front / 1 in the back). I am going to get something that will drop it down to 1 all around or 0 gap!!!!!

Thought I would share this with you guys.
Before I bought my Neuspeed sports / Bilstein HD's I researched the
$h!t out of the companies. I was just going through my e-mail deleting all the old stuff and found this:

My e-mail:

I will be lowering my car with Neuspeed Sport
springs
(1.5"f / 1.7"r) and looking for good shocks. Do you guys have anything
that
will compliment the springs well? Thanks a lot, Jonathan

KYB's reply:

Jonathan,

thank you for your inquiry. We do not recommend using KYB product with
a
lowering of this much. Your shocks will bottom out and be damaged (very
common with lowered vehicles).
If you wish to lower your vehicle, KYB only recommends the use of
Eibach
ProKit springs with either our GR2 or AGX products.

I researched the shit out of this and not happy with my drop from the Neuspeed sports

I wanted just a nice, not to low drop, that would look even!! Neuspeed rides nice, looks like $hit when sitting!! F**k it!! I'm going for a 0 or 1 finger gap and f**k the ride!!!
