Corolla is best-selling car in Japan

June 6, 2006 - 3:49PM

Toyota Motor Corp's Corolla compact car became the best-selling vehicle in Japan in May for the first time in two months, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association said on Tuesday.

Corolla sales totaled 9,811 units in the month, down 8.3 per cent from a year earlier.

Ranked second was the Toyota Vitz compact car, which had been the bestseller in April. Vitz sales plunged 24.2 per cent to 8,220 units.

Following the Vitz was Honda Motor Co's Fit compact with sales totaling 7,138 units. The Fit rose from fourth place.

Toyota accounted for seven of the top 10 sellers. Nissan Motor Co's Tida and Note came back into the top 10 group.

The association report does not cover imported vehicles or minicars with engines of up to 660 cc.

Two Mazda Motor Corp vehicles were listed among the top 30 for the first time in 14 months. They were the Demio compact car and MPV minivan.

Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd's Legacy entered the top 30 group for the first time in two months.

Yawn... Who didn't expect that? Corolla has been dominating the top 5 chart of the best selling car in Japan for a very long time. If it didn't get the best selling title, it will place somewhere north of 5th place. It has quite a huge interior for its size, the engine is nice, quality is a ok, and the price is average with the competitors... So, it's given.

BTW, the list is updated each month right?
