crower stage 2 vs. prelude type-s cams

heres a pro....you wont need spring and retainers with the Type S cams. you prob wont see as much of a gain from the Type S ones but its cheaper because you wont need the springs and retainers.
Also, you know you cant go wrong with genuine honda parts.


If you want Type S cams....PM cause Ill sell mine for $375.

I know I'm over looking valve duration and ramp rates. So does anyone have anything to add about which would be better. A list of pro's and con's maybe?

I thought you don't need valve springs and retainters anyway unless you want to raise the stock rev-limit. If you want to keep the same rev-limit, then either way, you won't need springs and retainers.

you prob wont a large gain without raising the rev limit anyway.

not near as much as they advertise anyway....

how high can I safely raise the rev limit with a crower valve train upgrade? other upgrades to consider (ignition)?

with a new engine management system

you can raise the rev limit with aftermarket ECU's and engine management systems. HONDATA, MOtec etc

I don't think it's wise to raise the limit too high on a Prelude. I can't say what the limit would be but if you aren't making any more power, why raise the limit (to stay in vtec all the time?). Are you going to just be racing with this car? I've got mine set to 8000 with the S200 with springs and retainers.

And no you don't NEED the springs and retainers if you keep the stock rev limit with the stage2 stock idle lobe cams. Why not upgrade it though if you are working on the car anyway?

I recommend buying the stage 2 cams from crower....they are good cams from what I hear.....also I would use the stock valve springs and retainers...no need to change them. I wouldn't raise the rev limit. its there for a reason.

although the crower stage 2 cams have different overlap numbers than the stock cams for increased high rpm performance. this should mean that the new torque curve doesn't fall off quite as fast as the stock curve, and with an upgraded ignition system, this should allow for more constant torque to be generated at high rpms, right? I'm trying to draw similarities to the ITR. and valve springs with higher spring rates would be needed to prevent valve float at high rpms due to higher cam ramp rates.

anybody dyno'ed a crower valve train and tried to play with their cam gears in stratuspheric rpm ranges?

I'm not planning to race my car (it may still happen), but I do want to have make my engine have a split personality more than it already has. half the rpm's are subdued, and the other half are psychotic! I love the high reving nature of honda engines, and I want to push the envelope.

I didn't know you can use the S2000 springs and retainers in a H22?!? I guess you I learn something new today.

Yes I meant I had Crower springs and retainers in my car and the rev limit was increased to 8000rpm using the new Hondata S200 unit.

the old hondata fine tine upto 10,000 rpm from memory and the new s200 upto 11,000 rpm
