My friend has a D15B none Vtec and isnt were pretty sure its the one with 62 HP and I was wondering whats the difference between the 102 d15b's and the 62 d15b? I mean is the 102 hp d15b just have a different cam and manifold or what and is the block the same? I just want to know how is the 102 hp d15b getting that extra 40 from my friends 62 hp?

Well why does some of the D15B motors get more power than the 62 hp motor? is the cam or manifold different?

d15b usualy refers to the JDM 1.5 liter with the vtec p08 head or the later 3 stage vtec head.

D15b1,2,6,7,8, refers to the USDM varients found from 1988-95.

all made varying power due to intake/cam/ECU/exhaust and intake manifolds/pgmfi system/ and overall "factory tuning" they all had the same head(pm3 or pm6 cast) except for the 8v varients(which would effect power output) found in 88-91 "econo" models.

*see below (taken from SOHCHonda.com archives)

-D15B1
1.5 8V SOHC PGM-FI 1493 [email protected] [email protected]
'88-'?? Civic (note, there has been found to be a 16v late 91 model year d15b1 stamped motor. i know because i have one)

-D15B2
1.5 16V SOHC PGM-FI 1493 [email protected] [email protected]
'88-'91 Civic DX/LX (USDM)

-D15B6
1.5 8V SOHC PGM-FI 1493 [email protected] [email protected]
'88-'89 Civic/CRX HF (USDM)

-D15B6
1.5 8V SOHC PGM-FI 1493 [email protected] [email protected] '90-'91 Civic/CRX HF (USDM)

-D15B7
1.5 16V SOHC PGM-FI 1493 [email protected] [email protected]
'92-'95 Civic DX/LX (USDM)

-D15B8
1.5 8V SOHC PGM-FI 1493 [email protected] [email protected]
'92-'95 Civic CX (USDM)

all use the same bottom end however from the crank up to the deck (except for the pistons in the 8v motors which saw that some came with 2 valve reliefs pistons and other 16v reliefs depending on how honda felt the day of production.)

Right, but the "JDM D15b" pictured here:

is infact just a "D15B" stamp. its from japan, comes with about 130ps and has more parts in common with the USDM d16z6 except 1.5liter destroked crank.

now, the other models (which are completly different than the "D15b")

d15b1,2,7 etc that have a numeral following the "b" are the economy engines found in the U.S.

My question is whats different on the motor that makes more power?

It has 8 valves... If it is the d15b8... The stroke and intake is different... If you look at the d15b8, then you will also notice that even the throttle body is small as hell... Everything on that motor was built to save on gas... Hey, BTW... You need to hollar back at me... You have not answered my PM...
