i have a 92 civic dx. i looked into the b16 and 18s the are kinda high priced. i want to swap the d16z6 into my car. is it possible? do any of the parts match up or do i need a whole swap? like, does the tranny and axles need to be changed. .....and what if i were to get a vx and swap the d16z6 engine into it. do any parts match up there.? anyone know?

any d-series will bolt in, it's the same block therefore the same mounts. if you're gonna do a Z6, you should get the engine with the tranny. the gears on your DX transmission are much taller than those on the Z6 and will accelerate much slower. the only problem you'll have is that your car is not wired for vtec..... the VX is however wired for it, removing one complication.
if i were you, i'd just get the complete engine, tranny, ecu, and anything else needed for the swap. oh, and you should be able to reuse the axles.
i have a dx tranny and i liek it better it is the c5f tranny the one usually in a civic ex is the y4f i like the dx tranny b/c the 2nd gear and third are much stronger and damn i top out a lot higher too in each gear i top out in 2nd at 66 and 3rd at 104 and 4th i haven't even tried yet but i like it better maybe that will help you some
ok how about the motor? like the sensors.....are they the same on my dx as they would be on a d16z6? where do you guys think i can get the motor? know any sights? any more opinions about the trannies..... sorry i just the tranny question in another thread but i just want opinions... and how about the fuel pump and any othet things.....

Yeah, as was stated earlier the dx gears are a lot taller. The fact that your top end is higher is proof of that. The ex tranny is geared more aggressively so you get better acceleration (which is what most of us want).
how about electrically? and the fuel pump? kommon sense you seem to know a lot. do you know anything about the fuel pumps?
Your fuel pump is fine, don't worry about that yet. Definitely get the whole motor/trans swap (reuse your old axles). Do you drive your car all over from place to place at 104mph in 3rd gear? Didn't think so. Do you want to lunge forward whenever you step on the gas, and launch harder off the stoplights? I DO think so! So forget the DX tranny, unless you just can't afford the Si/EX trans.

When you get the motor all the sensors should be on it to avoid hassle, although some of them will transfer over from your old one. Get the harness & P28 ecu to run it and you'll be all set to go.
ok where to buy this engine now? anyone know any places in pittsburgh area to get a motor. d16z6
How far are you from Toledo? There's an import wrecking yard called Cherry Auto Parts that might be able to dig up a swap package for you, and the guages too.

Look in the other thread where you were asking this question, I answered there too! :)

So , would an EX tranny bolt to an LX/DX engine? They're both D16Y's right (for the 96-00 civ's I mean...)
Any d-series tranny will bolt up to any d-series block. So yes, the EX tranny will work with the DX/LX.
no i had a ex tranny in my ex i just am in the process of changing the 1st gear b/c its better in the ex tranny so i am goign to put the ex 1st gear in the dx tranny b/c i have done transmission work in my transmmission classes at school so when i do that i will have the jump off the line of the ex first gear then have the higher end of the dx tranny

Don't waste your time, the EX and DX first gears are the same. The difference is the final drive gearing and 2nd & 3rd gears.

klunge is right man, EX tranny is faster period. shorter gearing accelerates faster with a lower top speed, taller gearing accelerates slower with a higher top speed.... you can't get both faster acceleration and higher top speed through gearing.

A succinct summation! Really, what's this fascination with top speed? It's a Civic, not a Bonneville Salt Flats rocket-car.

Who cares if you can get to 110mph in second gear if it takes 90 seconds to get there because the gearing sucks? If it takes 4 gears to get to that speed but you can do it in 20 seconds, you are better off.

Now don't flame, this explanation was just a dramatization to help you see the point!;)
well i have 2 sets of ex gears so i will just swap them out, thanks

the difference in the gears is so minimal it would be hard to tell a difference i found this and i mean it isn't that much u can just swap gears from all d series transmissions all the gears will work just a little insight
try a different engine

Hey before you guy that engine, you should check out the jdm d15b, i just swapped my d16y8 out for that d15b and its a much better engine in my opinion, and its vtec you can pick it up for $750. and i can beat most civics unless they're turbo/supercharged. And yes, i would go with an ex tranny-find you a 92-95 civic ex ecu and harness for the engine and youll be surprised at how much more power you will have.
