It won't feel anything like a DOHC vtec when it engages, ever. But like said above a good cam will make it more noticeable. A ZEX or Crower cam will make a world of difference.

The problem is that SOHC vtec only changes the lift and duration on the intake valves, the exhaust valves remain the same.

So if you get a cam with more agressive exhaust and vtec lobes it should pull you into the seat a little more.

AKMEE makes a good ~$500 valve train kit for the D16Z6/D16Y8 engines that includes a more agressive cam, titanium retainers, and valve springs. A google search will bring you to their website.

:number1 to AKMEE their project remix EG hatch kicks ass. they basicly took the best sohc cam out there(the crower) and they just changed it by like 1 or 2 degress or lift and called it a day. basicly its a crower on the cheap but without the cheap parts. they do great stuff its cheap because they have just barely entered the USDM market.

you should never *feel* vtec engage and you can't compare performance of a 1.6L motor to that of a 2.2 or 2.3L motor...
