ahh..finally after 4 months of getting my 2002 coupe v6, my dad said i can get an intake for my car...no doubt ima get the aem cai for my car...but he doesnt want me to lower my car just yet...dang..i want to lower my car..but my dad wont let me...i just want to know...can lowering your car ruin anything of ur car...i know scratches..but alignment, etc...

i know there was a post for intakes before..but if u guys can give me more info..it would be helpful..

installation time?

overall gains?

does it have any negative effects on car?

cleaning process?

maintence infromation?

hmm, these are one of those times i wished v6accord.com worked. cuz there is a longggg sticky on all about this stuff. oh well. installation time isn't long, can do it yourself if you have patience, it is alittle harder than short ram since you do have to get "under" your car for the filter.

maintance is easy for the filter, just clean when you think its getting dirty. use your judgement on this. actually look hehehe

oh yeah and about the "hydro myth". if you plan to get the bypass valve, just get the short ram. (another imfamous sticky post over at v6accord)

about the dropping part, the only negative i have heard about it that concerns me is about the strain it puts on the tranny. but who knows.

lower that AV6

I've had my AV6 for a couple days now and I'm lowering it with Ground Control coilovers this weekend. I think I'll hold off on the AEM for a little but longer but let me know how the AEM intake sounds. It does suck how you can't really hear Vtech with stock intake but I hate riding like an SUV.

my dad never looks under the hood...so he doesn't know the intake's there. he never guns it, so it sounds normal to him...

my 1.75/1.5 drop...isn't a big drop...so he doesn't notice that either. my car's low either way compared to his pathfinder.

now my exhaust...daym thats gonna be hard trying to get it past him....

1) Install time: bout an hour
2) Overall gains: 7-10 whp for a Short Ram, a little more for a CAI
3) Negative effects: poorer mileage because you'll be on the gas all the time to hear it!
4) Cleaning: follow directions. I think every 15k it needs to be cleaned.
5) Maintenance: see #4

v6accord.com is supposed to be back up sometime tomorrow (fingers are crossed), so you're more than welcomed to check over there if you want.

for a CAI maybe. its tough trying to get the resonator out. but for a short ram more like 20 minutes

Hehe, its alright to get the CAI dude, I was like you too a few months ago when I got my ride, now my car is in the shop for a totally different colour paint job kaka.. and my dad is mad like hell.. sayin' "why you waste money?" "you have too much money" "car depriciate and you put more money into car?" "you so stupid" and stuff like that.. but after a while they don't really care anymore.. maybe its because its a new car or something but my dad never drives my car anyways.. if you really want to mod your car i suggest you do it slowly and add things that are not too obvious, like decorate the inside of your car and see what your parents say about it. Then drop your car, add a spoiler/fogs if you don't have them.. then add rims.. tint.. then bodykit.. haha..
exhaust is last because parents don't like loud "cocky" cars..
As for the AEM, i think that is one of the best buys you can get for your money, although you don't really "see" any real gains the sound is really kool.. it goes shoooooooo.. and goes shrooommvvv... when it hits v-tech hehe.. nice choice and good luck with your car!

Here's the dyno chart from when I had my Short Ram Dyno'd.

Green/Purple = Stock 155hp
Red = Intake 164hp (9hp peak gain)

I suggest you wait for the Comptech Icebox release and its dyno! It supposes to have more gain than the AEM CAI thru the whole RPM range!

an intake is an intake... the only difference is cold air / short ram. im my opinion, the A.E.M sticker isn't going to give you 15+hp. like the blue lights i got in the front =).

just get a cold air generic brand?

hah, i paid 200+ for my AEM CAI and it looks damn good and has no defects, anything breaking, etc

my friend bought and "EBAY Special" Chrome CAI and his bracket to hold the top portion down broke off!! and he hasnt even had it for a month! It looks nice though, all chrome, but i guess the quality just isnt there


oh ya, why does ur dad care about the intake?
you should tell him it increases gas mileage and the efficiency of the engine
you helping the environment!!

It's not a question of power gains necessarily, but rather quality. A remarkably high percentage of V6'ers that have gotten these "ebay special" intakes have had them break on them.

mann..my fren is hooking me up wit the aem cai for 80. i know sounds nuts..but he is opening a shop so he gets these hookups and stuff...like he has a lil shop in his garage rite now..but is opening up one soon. iono..he told me he can get me it for under a bill..so ima go see him this week...

anyways...CAN ANYONE POST PICS OF THE AEM CAI IN THEIR V6..I KNOW THERE IS A GALLERY..BUT I DONT WANT TO SEARCH FOREVER..ALSO...DO U THINK SILVER OR THE GRAY COLOR WILL LOOK OK..I DONT WANT TO GET RED OR BLUE CAUSE THEN I HAVE TO MATHC EVERYTHING WIT THAT COLOR..
