hey all, my car is in the dealer as we speak, and has been there since 8am....it is now 2:26pm. I took it in because after I changed my oil, my check engine light came on. At the dealer, the guy asked me if i had any aftermarket engine parts...I said, yes, a cold air intake and headers. He basically said that if I have blown an O2 sensor due to the aftermarket parts, the cost of repair is not under warranty. ok. So how do i know if they are yanking my chain about the aftermarket stuff being the cause of the problem? I think I just knocked a wire loose when putting the damn oil filter in, but that's just my own personal guess. By the way, I have an AEM CAI, and DC sports 4-2-1 ceramic headers. Let me know what I should be cautious of, and what problems can even be POSSIBLE with this setup. I dont wanna get screwed by the dealer is basically what it comes down to.

Dealer would have to prove that the O2 sensor was either damaged by the part or install of the part. If you have had the header for a while and this is the first time for the light came on it wasn't anything the install did. The sensor is fairly fragile and would most likely me damaged during the install but not during normal operation. Do you ever use octane booster, some of those will damage the O2 sensor, check the labels. basically make the dealer prove the header caused the damage. Hope that helps.

I havent even gone in to pick up the car yet, but i guess im just getting worried that it's taking so long. No one has tried to pull the "blame it on the aftermarket parts" shpeel yet, but i have a feeling it might be coming down to that when i finally get the call saying my car is ready. I didnt use octane booster, and didnt damage any of the O2 sensors at all during install. What's weird to me is that the light came on RIGHT AFTER i changed the oil...anyone else had this problem or know what might have caused it? I made sure the oil filter was on right, so that isnt the issue...

Two questions.

1. Did you ever bother to pull the CEL code and figure out what it pointing to BEFORE you brought it to the dealer so you would have had a heads up?

1.5 Maybee.. Just Maybee.. Did you fire up your engine take off running before it had time to start pumping that oil all thru the engine? Mayhaps an oil metering / pump relay could have triggered the ECM and the whole thing is fine. Again, having the CEL code I think would have given you some peace of mind. Good Luck.

just got off the phone with Honda...they said it was the engine knock sensor....anyone have a clue what this is? He said worse case scenario...they have to keep it over night and i get a loner car. I really hope this isnt anything serious, or related to my aftermarket parts. The guy on the phone said it usually isnt covered under warranty, and i guess if i knew what it was i would know why. Anyone know what this sensor is/does?

just got my car back. No charge on anything, thanks to the fact that my best buddy works there!:) What i had done was knock the pin of the knock sensor completely off and severed it. Plus, i also knocked another emissions control wire loose...oops. This is a lesson for everyone, be CAREFUL when installing/removing an oil filter. Learn from my mistake!!!!! peace!

Bryanmoe, glad it worked out. What dealer, Stevens Creek Honda? My brother lives in Santa Clara, down the road. I was there in December. Do you still have your GReddy EVO?

Glad every turned out for you. Are you selling anything else off your car before you unload it?
nope. Intake, headers, and short shifter are staying on. I just wish someone would jump on the opportunity and buy my car that i have babied since May of 2000.....:(

Cold Air intake, Exhaust and Header are just basically bolt on parts. what i mena by this is that you can bolt them on to your car with out making any modifications to the car in order to get what you want. they were made to fit your car with out any modifcation or tuning needed. so probably they are just screwwing you man. My S2000 require no addtional tuning or modifcation when i added a Exhaust, Header and Intake. and you would think that with the S2000 being so tuned that you would needed to retune it ? well i didn;t have to because the parts did not reauire that and they were just simple bolt on. Believe it or not, when i added the Comptech supercharger i only had to make one modificationa nd that was a new fuel regulator to increase the ammount of fuel due to the Supercharger. now what i suggest is taking the car to someone else, or another dealer ship and tell them what you think and to look at that.

good luck man:cool:
