Dipstick

My dipstick never shows I have any oil in my car, it is always dry. I ended up over filling my oil because I thought I was just burning it. It turns out I really have 5 quarts in there when I changed it. Is there something blocking the dipstick from getting to the oil? has this happened to anyone else?

Are you sure you had the oil in the car when you checked it?

When you check your oil, you need to start the car, and wait for preasure. Then turn it off, and check the dip stick.

you actually want to measure the oil level on a cold engine, when all the oil is settled and in the oil pan. if you start it up, oil will splash up and be on the sidewalls, which will lead to an inaccurate reading

As long as you start it up, then wait for preasure, and then turn it off, be sure to WIPE the dipstick, you will have an accurate reading.

I think it goes in the gastank, am I right?

I think there might be some sort of blockage in there, I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I am swapping oil pans within the next week so I should be able to find out what's going on then.
