disturbing oil loss...

my H23 burns 1.25 quarts of oil for every 1000 miles. this oil consumption rate is horrible and its really starting to piss me off. it got much worse when i switched to mobil 1 synthetic at about 90k miles (102k now). i looked around on hp.com and found this recall...

Manufacturer recall
Years: 1994-97
Honda TSB 00073
Recall date: 3/01
The infamous front balancer shaft oil seal replacement. Over time, the seal backed out under pressure, resulting in rapid oil loss. The fix was to install a retainer on the seal. This affected most 1994-96 Preludes and Accords, as well as a few early production 1997 cars. Although not included in the recall, 1992-93 Preludes are also vulnerable to this problem.

my car is a 93...do you think this is my problem?? if so, where can i go to have it fixed and how much do you think it will cost me? if this is not my problem then what is? i need to get this oil consumption taken care of...thanx in advance.

I don't burn any but then again...I only have 27K miles:)
thanx for the help... nah its cool i figured nobody would know anyways.

PreludeSIZero: how many miles do you have on your H23? do you use synthetic oil?
120,000 miles...rebuild time coming this summer.
I just replaced the oil pan gasket. I noticed I had some oil under the pan and was missing 2 bolts. I saw my gasket was ripped up pretty bad too when I took it apart. never noticed any oil on the ground though.
I am not using synthetic oil. It had too many miles on it when I bought it to switch.

what are you getting rebuilt, where are you going to get it done, what are you paying for it? thanx!
That recall isnt for those losing about a quart between changes. That thing pops out and all your oil starts gushing out. The recall is to replace it before it goes bad. And Si Ludes arent part of the recall from what I remember.
If you have hi miles and drive hard, that kind of loss isnt abnormal.
Yeah, the way that I've heard it described, is that the whole gasket gets sucked in then all of your oil just pours out over a few second time span. (Mental Note: Go to Honda to get that shit fixed).
And I think that the recall applies to ALL 94-96 Prelude and SOME 92,93, & 97 Preludes.

~Peace :D
ok good.

no i dont drive hard, but i would still like to rebuild the engine to make it run a little better. i plan on having this car for a long long time.
