There is a customer at the Acura dealership I work at who missed a shift and bent some valves. Repair bill is $2000.00

With the head off you can spray brake cleaner into the exhaust port and it will leak out of the bent valves.

Watch your shifting.

what happend was that when he missed the shift he didn't realize it and his car over revved... that there causes the valves to get fucked up.... not the miss shift

but i do agree.. could be dealer word on the street

I accidentally shifted from 3rd back down to 2nd when accelerating hard on a test drive. The tach needle went past 9000rpm for a short time.. then I quickly press the clutch and shifted into 4th.... no noticeable damage because I pressed the clutch quickly.

my dad got a 01' bmw 325i, a friend of mine in a 00' prelude wanted to race so i did, i had him then on the 3-4 shift i accidentally went into 2nd... the wheels locked for a second and the revs got high but i dont remember how high, i very quickly depressed the clutch and there has been no problems but as i realized what was going on all the stories i've heard about going into the wrong gear and breaking valves went through my mind and i almost shit myself

I had a two friends of mine put on my JRSC for me at work,
they took their time and the install looks factory.

Same happedn with my friend he had 2k miles on his GSR and mis shifted to 2nd going 90 mph. Bent valves bill ran up to almost 2000.. his defense he was drunk ahah. But yeah I dunno why some motors are built better then others. My bro has mis shifted due to a bad clutch cylinder many times and the motors fine. Best thing to do is not to fiddle with short shifters, If installed wrong it can be such a pain in the ass.

i was a lucky one also

i went from 3rd at redline into 2nd by accident and the the needle on the tach was burried...after a compression and leakdown test, turns out i just needed a valve adjustment really bad after that

I did the same thing in my Teg but the dealer paid for everything under warranty. All I did was play dumb and say the car started idling funny when I started it up one morning. It did take them about 3 weeks to fix though. One time I did it with my new crower valvetrain and crower cams but it held up...thank god.

valves

they get bent because after a certain rpm, the valvesprings cannot keep up with the speed, the valves dont open and close fast enough......in other words you float a valve and boom....the piston comes up when the valve is still open and if your lucky, the valve just gets bent instead of busting a hole through a piston
