I have a 2001 Gsr and I bent a valve by
shifting to 2nd when I was supposed to go
into 4th.

I took it to a mechanic and he said I bent the second valve.
When the car idles it vibrates and sounds like it wants to cut off.
Other than that, the car runs perfect!
I am going all motor in two weeks!
My question is, can I drive on a bent valve?
What damage I am doing to my engine?

time for a diy project... i will not pay labor to change 1 frickin valve... learn how to do it, get one at a yunkjard... hehe and change it yourself... thats what i would do... you learn so much about your car when doing your own stuff... i dont think youre screwing anything up, but youre not letting air in your engine, or out, depending on what valve you bent... you could also get new ones and do a 3 angle valve job while youre at it...

question... did you take it to a mechanic or to the dealer? i am finding it hard to believe your car will run at all if a valve is truly bent. if it is an intake valve, when the cylinder fires, the lit fuel will come back up the intake manifold.. that would be bad. if it is an exhaust valve, the unburned fuel will be running out the exhaust manifold and will ignite befor the cat.. also very bad. if the valve is truly bent, you also have probobly cracked the valve guide in the head. i would attempt to take the car to the dealer, it is obviously under warranty, and have them fix it. you might even be able to convince em you dont know why it isnt running well and theywill repair under the warranty. if you do decide to do it yourself, goto the dealer and buy a new valve. they are cheap and you wont be getting a used one.

oh, well if it only stalled 15 times then i guess it was running fine, except for the bent valve thing:rolleyes:

you can always take your car in for warranty work. they will tell you if a mod you have made could have caused the failure they are supposed to work on and tell you whether it will be covered or not. example.. they wold not cover any tranny or engine problems because of your mods. but they would stil cover the ac, or electrical systems under your warranty.
To clarify the original post, I am not saying your car wont run, i am saying dont continue driving on something as severe as bent valves, it could lead to really catostrofic engine failure, and instead of buying the parts to fix, you are buying a new head or entire engine down the road. this seems kind of stupid to me to wait till something worse happens.
