is there any way to get a v6 in there
With an unlimited supply of money anything is possible. If you want the biggest possible engine that will fit in your car reasonably, then the H22a is your best bet. You will have to get new engine mounts to swap it though. Good luck with your choice.
yeah h22 will be the best..but some peole who have them say handling is not all that great
Handling wont be as good as it would be with the lighter engine. But it doesn't mean it's gonna handle like shit. if you go h22a you're probably gonna lose a\c so there's weight reduction, you may lose power steering unless you relocate it, there's more weight reduction. Add a carbon fiber hood and you aren't gonna be that much heaver than a b series block. Add in a good suspension set up and your car wont handle bad at all.
The only 2 V6's I can think of that would possibly fit are the 1.8L Mazda or the 2.8L VW VR6 which is by far the better of the 2. Obviously with a cross-breed like this there would be lots of fab work and things to work out with engine management. The torque is humongous with the VR6 and hp potential is good too. But really that's a silly idea.

As specified before, your best bet is to stay Honda and go with the H22. Perhaps you can overbore it for a little more displacement if you really want it that way...but it already has 200hp stock.
Just a question:

What application are you looking at this swap for?

If you just want gobs of power to launch in a straight line then the H22 is a good option (the VW VR6 is a great little compact and relatively light-weight V6, but I have my doubts that you will fit it without a very custom front end.)

But the fact is, FF cars are so viciously understeer-prone by nature that if you want to auto-X, then this kind of swap will kill you. Any gains you would get in power would be lost to the fact that your car just won't take corners at speed with that much weight up front.
Actually teh VR6 is fairly slim, it fits with plenty of room to spare in the Golf engine bay, but the VR6 is a cast iron block (very strong but very heavy.) Plus teh Civic has a lower profile hood and a different type of suspension. I think it wouldn't be an issue of extending the front end but instead of getting a higher hood and trying to wedge it in between the fenders. Not worth it IMO even though it would definitely be original.

Go with an overbored H22 then turbo that sucker, you'll beat almost anything in a straight line.
How did we get on the topic of swapping in a VR6 engine? Yes, they are very good engines for their size, but I'm pretty sure he was wanting to stick with Honda engines to keep things a little easier. I agree with the part about what you want to use your car for. If you want to take it to the drag strip then put the H22A in it, otherwise keep a smaller engine.
run a h22 at 8 pounds of boost :) gobs of power then just think with a little bit of engine work pushing 12-13 pounds or more

He asked if there was a V6 that could fit in a Civic and that was the only one I could think of that could be made to fit since it was made for compact cars and has room to spare inside the Golf engine bay. It was just some conjecture, we agreed it wouldn't be worth the work and expense of converting it over to German stuff.

Oh ok, I gotcha now. It would definitely be expensive to do something like that, but those are the things no one would expect. If you have the money to do those kinds of swaps then you can have lots of fun.:D

Yeah, if you've driven a VR6 you know what a great motor it is, you realize what Honda motors (as good as they are) are missing. Mountains of torque! The VR6 pulls hard from 2000 rpm. And there's a huge turbo kit that works even a stock VR6 internals (it's an iron block) that delivers 420 lb/ft torque and 378 hp!!!

Having that in a Civic which is a few hundred pounds lighter than the golf would be awesome.
