Hey guys, have you ever wonder why Prelude got discontinued? I'm sick of finding out different stories... "...Preludes were too damn reliable compared to other Hondas no profit in parts after warranty..." or "...Prelude cost exceded demands..." or "...Honda's Integra seemed to be a better choice for almost the same price as a Prelude = moving from Honda to Acura..." :bash

Not mattering where I look there is a different answer to it. Since I know SHO is full of knowledgeable people... let's here it!!! :number1

it would be sweet if they brought back the lude. it would be even sweeter if it was 4WD and 4WS(like the new bmw's) with turbo, leather,6spd,17in wheels.

but i thought the stopped making the integras to in 2001.

Preludes were SUPER expensive to make. Their chassis had nothing in common with any other vehicle in the Honda/Acura line. So each one had to come from the same factory.

Secondly, the H22 engine (from the fifth gen ludes in the US) required a lot of labor. We're talking about a reliable engine that can regularly run upwards of 7K rpms. And when you take into to account the JDM type-S motor, you're talking about an engine that was MANUALLY port-and-polished by a single tech, and then set up as a track engine to run on a street car.

The H22, in spite of it's picky and sensitive nature, was a VERY difficult motor to produce on a grand scale. Let anlone the fact that it wasn't being used in ANY other platform.

Then we get to ATTS, a specifically and unargueably ASSININE technology that made the preludes even MORE specific. Don't get me wrong, I love me some ATTS, but it wasn't used in any other car at the time. Notice the new RL's, with the AW-ATTS, I garantee you the prelude SH was a run at seeing how reliable such a system would be.

In the end, the prelude lost out because of internal costs to Honda. When the last prelude was sold, it was more expensive than the nicest Accord you could buy, and it had less HP than said Accord. At the time, if you were looking for a honda sports coupe, you would've rather spent the $$ on an S2000.

The reason the prelude was discontinued was low sales the 92-96 4 gen sales were awful, and the 5 gen may have been a little better, but not by much and the prelude was also overpriced a 94 lude cost more than 94 integra, bad marketing on hondas partthey should have made the lude an acura and the integra a honda
Just want to say that 5th gens were the worst selling ludes. 50k 5th gens were sold in the US and 90k 4th gens...
