Final Fantasy 12 finally hits stores

A scene of "Final Fantasy 12" launching event. After a delay of almost three years, "Final Fantasy 12," the latest in an enormously successful series of video games, finally hit stores across Japan on Thursday morning.

Square Enix Co., producers of the series of role-playing games that has already sold more than 65 million copies around the world, has shipped 2 million units of "Final Fantasy 12" for Sony Play Station 2 (PS2).

"This is a pretty meaty game," Square Enix President Yoichi Wada said at a special event to mark the launch in Tokyo's Shibuya-ku. "I think this will become a work that symbolizes PS2."

Other Final Fantasy producers turned up for the event, which was attended by about 150 people, many of who had camped overnight in order to be able to attend.

"This is an epic," Akitoshi Kawazu, the game's overall developer, said.

Angela Aki and Taro Hakase, who produced the music for "Final Fantasy 12," sent a videotaped message that was played at the event. They also took part in the final countdown to the commencement of sales.

A 19-year-old student from Kawasaki was the first person to buy "Final Fantasy 12."

"I'm expecting it will be even better than the 'Final Fantasy 10' I loved so much," the student, who had lined up since about 6 p.m. Wednesday night, said.

"Final Fantasy 12" is a role-playing game set in a world called Ivalice and focusing on characters such as a young man called Vaan and an exiled queen called Ashe. "Final Fantasy 12" was originally supposed to have been released in 2003, but the release was postponed a number of times. (Mainichi)

is it coming here?
if so,when?
You got a short wait ahead of you. Early August if I remember correctly, but I'd think both Sony & Square Enix would be featuring it at their E3 booths in May.
