Im saving money for a new Integra but im currently driving a 90 Integra. I was wondering what i could do to the car to improve sound/performance without spending any or a lot of money. Im thinking about removing the intake duct/pipe or something thats under the filter. Any other free tips on performance/sound/looks will be greatly appreciated. Thanks....:D

something thats under the filter. the resonator box? try www.g2ic.com they have some pretty good stuff under Tech Tips. If you're just looking for sound you could get a Short Ram pretty cheap. The knock-off's sound just like the real deal, they just don't perform as well. Let me know if you change your mind about selling, I could give you some pretty good pointers about modding a G2.
Thanks

Thanks for the link!!
advance your timing by loosening the bolts up on the distributor and turning the top bolt hole about a 1/4 inch towards the firewall. It helps a little and its free. I have a 99 integra and my factory airbox had a cone filter stock so I just took the cover of the airbox it sounded just like an intake.

If you've never worked with advancing/ retarding timing I suggest you not do this. The timing is set to where it is for a reason, leave it there unless it is impacted by something else (ie serious engine mods)
Will advancing yout timing off the distrbutor have any ill effects on your engine or will you just loose power.
Power suffers, that's for sure. I'd bet that over time the timing being off could affect the engine, but I don't know for sure. Any Honda Techs out there know definitely what the effects of overly advanced (or retarded) timing can do to a motor? Thanks.
I wouldn't advance your timing that way. You don't know exactly how far you are going with the advance. When tuning an engine there is a spot where your power is at a max. It isn't always beneficial to have your timing as advanced as possible. If you go too far you could damage your car. Detonation can be a problem.
Yeah but sometimes adjusting it may seem like you are getting more power in an area when really you lose power in another area. I just worry about people over-advancing it and causing damage.
Tell them how it is Kaotic1 I'm in the same boat you are. How woul you advance your timing deMad10
I would get some Cam gears and tune that way. That way you know where you start and you know exactly how many degrees you are advancing or retarding each cam.
If you need to retard your timing 4 degrees (i.e. 75 shot of nitrous would you retard both cam gears 4 degrees
ok this is how to advance timing by the book(acura dealer service manual).
1. start the eng. hold the eng. at 3,000 rpm with no load until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
2. pull out the service check connector located behind the right kick panel. connect the service check connector with the special tool. (just jump the connector with a paper cilp)
3.to adj. ign. timing, loosen the dis. mounting bolts, & turn the dis. counterclockwise to advance the timing or clockwise to retard the timing.
4. remove the paper cilp.

if you advance the dis. all the way that will be 2 deg.
hope this helps.
Don't underestimate free mods, they are often the most important. Stuff like weight reduction can be extremely beneficial to performance. Lowering your front tire pressure helps a lot on launches. A cool cosmetic thing is to shave your rear wiper, the plug only costs $20. Here is a pic: http://community.webshots.com/photo/18542444/25946206wgwWgVrXJz

Advancing your timing is advancing your distributor. Advancing your cams is just advancing overlap on your cams. That has nothing to do with timing.

But advancing it all the way? Are you sure that is only 2 more degrees? In that case no one can really overdo it since the max would be 18 degrees since the stock is set at 16 degrees. I think its more than that. But the only true way to advance your timing is not on a dyno or by listening with your ears. Its with a Timing Gun. The timing gun will help you figure out exactly what your timing is set at and how much you have to turn the distributor to set it at the correct degrees.

Don't drive your car around with low pressure, only do this at the track, and fill them up immediatly after you're done racing, and then again when they cool down. Low pressure is what caused Explorer tires to separate at the tread, with devastating results. If you autocross you'll actually want to increase tire pressure (on street tires) to prevent rollover when you turn. There's not a whole lot of weight reduction you can do to the car if you like the interior. Still when I go to the 1/4 mi. I pull mine out. It's illegal in most SCCA Solo II (autocross) classes though, so always check before you go. www.scca.org

I like the look of the shaved rear wiper. That may be the only cosmetic thing I do this year. Then again, I could always save the $20 towards a new rear window for a completely shaved look.

I just took out the intake resonator last night and my car is extremely loud between 3k-5k rpm and then sounds like normal after... Dont feel a improvement in performance but i like the sound of it :D Not sure if i should mess with the timin myself so i might just go to my friends house and ask him to do it for me...
I dont plan on sellin my car till i buy a new car, but id rather save money for a new car rather than fixin up the car i got right now so i'll be able to buy one sooner. thanks for all ur feedback:p
Another free mod but I say for track use only (even though I've had this done to my car for about 2 years now). I removed the rear section of my exhaust which would also mean...I took off my muffler. The stock piece is a heavy piece of crap. I shaved 2 tenths off my time and the top end on my car is awesome, enough to get me 1mph on my trap speed also. I bet your wondering if it's too loud...It's not. Actually my car at normal cruising speed sounds just like I have an Apex-i N1. Only when you go WOT and hit VTEC is when it really screams. Fortunetely I haven't been pulled over yet...and I do live in chicago where the cops are all over the place. I think it's because I don't have a shiny or big muffler tip hanging off the back-end of my car for them to see.
