The thing is sweet, He had the head shaved and put in a thinner head gasket, and he said he used the intake cam of an Si, is that possible? Anyway, he can now stomp Ex's easily. I was in the car and we took one by about a car & a half. I think I'm going for it now.

He paid $175 to get it done. Our friends owns & shop so we get mad hook up's. It's a 98 LX. Yeah but the EX we raced had I/H/E, pulleys & short shifter, all my boy had was an Exhaust with stock piping & an AutoZone intake, plus two 10" in the back.

He said it was 125 for the head and 50 for labor.

He used the Intake cam from an Si, Si had two cams an intake & exhaust cam, and put it in place of the stock Cam.

They all work off the same cam, just like in every SOHC engine.

a DOHC has an intake cam and an exhaust cam
a SOHC has one cam with lobes for intake and exhaust on it

the newer si is a DOHC...so i assume that is the intake cam he is referring to....
the older si is a SOHC with less hp than the 6th gen SOHC vtec...

sohc one cam controls all valves

you take an intake cam from DOHC and put it on SOHC, you are now missing half the lobes needed to open valves.

The Itake & Exhaust valves work off the same lobes.
Wait a minute how many set's of lobes are on a SOHC engine? I'm gonna find a pic. I see what your saying, but do you see what I'm sayin?

an SOHC controls all 16 valves on one cam
and a DOHC controls 8 valves per cam

ummmm....lil problem there's a lil more involved than just popping on a d16y8 head, or making a "Mini-Me" set-up. if it's a 'mini-me' setup, how did he run the oil lines and stuff? and what did he do about the ecu? Let me guess your other friend has a Spoon engine with a t-66 turbo and 2 big bottles of NAWS. Maybe you and you're freind should learn a lil something about engines before to start spitting lyes.

No shit Shirlok you have to run an Oil line from the block. He's runnin an EX ECU. I thought it was common sense that you would have to switch out the ECU or make wiring for the VTEC on a Non VTEC block so I left that part out. It's just like putting a B16 or B18C head on a B18b block. Now if I came in here sayin' my friend put a B16 head on his D series engine by all means flame away. By the way I called my friend and he said it was a reground EX cam that has the lift a duration that the B16 intake cam had.

Actually we only had 3 car's that ran NOS. My friend has a ZC powered CRX with a 70shot. My other friend has a Z24 with an 75shot. And they just sold our group car which was a 92 cx with B18b & nitrous, that car is runnin' around Clemson S.C. now.
