Will a clogged fuel filter reduce the exceleration rate, and how often should it be changed? My car has 81,000 miles, and I don't know if it was ever changed... Please inform.
A clogged filter can indeed slow you down, it won't get you enough fuel fast enough. If you have 81K and it's never been changed, then it's definitely overdue.

I do mine at like 50-60K, but even that's a lot longer than the service manual suggests. Kind of just when I get around to it I suppose. Actually, I'm one to be talking...I'm overdue too.
I'd recommend changin it like klungenmonger said, bout every 50-60k miles...I actually just did mine a couple weeks ago (75k on my car and I don't know if the previous owner had ever done it before)...you really don't notice too much of a difference after you change it. There'll be a minimal increase in fuel mileage and a minimal increase in acceleration too but I really haven't noticed any change w/acc
i changed mines when i changed out my plugs and wires and i noticed a pretty good increase in gas milleage...its really easy to do and you can buy the filter for like 20 bucks i think
