GMC will cease production of the Envoy XUV, a five-passenger sport-utility vehicle with a cargo area which can be opened up to carry tall items, the Associated Press reported.

Production of the truck began 18 months ago and will stop on March 31. Slow sales were blamed for the truck's demise.

The XUV is made at GM's Oklahoma City plant, which will continue to make seven-passenger versions of the Envoy, including the Envoy Denali, a luxury version of the vehicle, a company spokeswoman said.

The decision will not affect jobs at the plant, where GM employs more than 2,200 people who also assemble seven-passenger versions of the Chevrolet TrailBlazer and Isuzu Ascender.
