REPORT: Microsoft is expected to show footage of the next iteration of Halo at their E3 news briefing.
Rumors have been circulating around the internet lately whether or not the next iteration of Halo would make an appearance in some form at E3 2006. In turn, a report by IGN has all but confirmed that the game will indeed make it to E3... in video form.

Upon speaking with their "independent sources who recently spoke with Microsoft executives," the report is believable enough to warrant any expectation of Master Chief making a surprise appearance once again at a Microsoft E3 press conference.

The video is allegedly two minutes long, although specifics remained minimal. We wouldn't be at all surprised if Microsoft reiterated their showcasing of the title's in-game engine, maybe with another battle demonstration of astonomical proportions?

Die-hard Halo fans should not expect a realistic release until 2007; a date that brought so much confusion after Founder Bill Gates' backing away of previous cautionary statements made against Sony, claiming that Halo would combat the release of the Sony PS3. Still, Microsoft's current stance remains that Halo 3 would be ready when Bungie is finished with it.

A recent conversation with Microsoft Game Studios' General Manager Shane Kim was conducted by New Zealand website Stuff.co.nz, acknowleding the previously thought-secretive existence of Halo 3's development. Here's what Kim had to say:

"You mean the mythical Halo 3? I mean, it's silly to deny its existence when the chairman of MS (Bill Gates) announced it, but I have nothing to announce now, but expect there to be a significant announcement at E3."

What this means is that we'll certainly see it, but it remains to be seen if we'll actually be able to play it. If it's demoed at E3 by an actual person as it was in a past media briefing, then just maybe a playable form could be around the corner. Behind closed doors? Only time will tell.

So there you have it. It's coming at E3 in video form, so enjoy that short yet anxious wait. AMN will be covering the event live, so be sure to keep tabs on the Xbox 360 channel.

More to come.

Microsoft to show Halo footage at E3 news briefing.
by Douglass C. Perry

April 28, 2006 - With Microsoft, the rumors are always true. The next iteration in Bungie Studios' Halo series will appear at E3 2006 in video form at its Tuesday, May 9 news conference, IGN learned today from independent sources who recently spoke with Microsoft executives.

The video is allegedly two minutes long, although its contents weren't divulged. We're guessing a wild breathtaking battle on Earth. Knowing Microsoft, the publisher will want to show all real, in-game engine footage to counter Sony's fantastical CG videos from E3 2005. When Microsoft was contacted, the company issued its standard reply, "We don't comment on speculation and rumors."

E3 is where console manufacturers, publishers, and developers lay down their best hand for hopes of creating buzz and interest leading into the fall season. And E3 2006 is perhaps one of the most crucial for Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo, as each stakes their plot in the next-generation landscape.

Diehard Halo fans shouldn't be too surprised. Bungie is notorious for taking its time, and the game is not likely to come out until 2007. Microsoft's most valuable franchise has been out of the limelight since last year's Map Pack, a set of additional multiplayer maps for 2004's Halo 2. Microsoft has edged away from talking about the next Halo all year long, except to acknowledge Founder Bill Gates' cautionary statements to Sony, claiming that when Sony readies PS3, Halo 3 will launch day and date with it. Microsoft since retracted the statement, claiming Halo 3 will be ready when Bungie is finished.

Recently, however, the company has started to roll up its proverbial Halo sleeves again, acknowledging Halo 3's existence. Microsoft Game Studios' General Manager Shane Kim, in a conversation with New Zealand Website Stuff.co.nz, said:

"You mean the mythical Halo 3? I mean, it's silly to deny its existence when the chairman of MS (Bill Gates) announced it, but I have nothing to announce now, but expect there to be a significant announcement at E3."

You heard it. Expect first details, footage, and wild Halo fanboy Love come E3.

Pre-E3 2006: Bungie Preps for E3
If it's Not Halo, it's at least Bungie's next project…wait, it's Halo.
by Douglass C. Perry

May 5, 2006 - Halo developer Bungie posted a pre-E3 update today and explained it's preparing a big "update" for next week, which just coincidentally happens to be the week of E3. Bungie Community Manager and officially crazy Scotsman Frank O-Connor explained the project in vague terms.

"As for our next project, it continues apace," the post reads. "Lots of progress in every department, from UI to Animation to Engineering and of course, all the way back to audio. There are things to see in every department, some rough and ready and some astonishingly smooth, polished and even playable.

"It's really making progress in an exciting and fascinating way. And I can't wait to share that with you properly. The level of secrecy is every bit as oppressive and confining for us as it is for you. Much, much bigger update next week. See you then!"

Let's see, it could be Halo 3, Halo Forerunners, Halo the MMORPG, or Halo the Xbox Live Arcade game. Or something totally different?

Bungie left its fans this picture for the weekend…

I'll hold my breath, I'm not overly excited about another Halo title that sill simply follow the same formula of the first 2, I'm all about innovation and changes in gameplay.

Well I think this will be big now that they have ALOT more power to work with and Bungie pushed the Xbox and made everything right and the gameplay and graphics were amazing. Just imagine what its going to look like with the Xbox 360. Plus E3 will be on 5/9/06 (which is TOMORROW) so I am sure EVERYONE will know tomorrow if Halo 3 exists or not.

I am really suprised that hardly anyone has jumped into this tread to express how they feel about Halo 3.

I saw that yesterday afternoon. I knew it was coming, so its not a big surprise. And since that was rendered with the in game engine, so far its the best looking thing Ive seen before.

While it's visuallay amazing, I don't know if I'd say it's the "best looking thing I've seen before". Honestly, I'm significantly more impressed with MGS4 and the facial detail and hair, how amazingly well it's pulled off, combined with it's amazing animation (and I Haven't even seen the 15 minute version yet).

I downloaded the Halo 3 announcement trailer on Xbox live and it's sweet! Really short, but it still gave me the chills. This game will kick butt! :number1

All the trailers for MGS4 are pre-rendered. And why cant I say its the best looking thing Ive seen before? It is the best looking thing I have seen. Dont get me wrong, MSG4, Call of Duty 3, Gears of War, they all look fantastic, but so far all the trailers are pre-rendered. Once they release in game footage, my opinion will change. But the Halo 3 trailer is using the in game engine, so the details in the trailer (dynamic lighting, real time reflections, etc) will be present during gameplay.

Now, for the sake of argument, neither machine has seen its potential. You seem to be a hardcore sony guy, and I have no preference over either. I like the titles, not the hardware. We can only wait to see real time rendering from the RSX in the PS3. Until then, its all speculation. :)

Ok......bad syntax. Sorry. I havent seen the latest, its just what I heard. Bad sources apparantly. As for being a cock rider eh, I already told you, I like halo yes, but do I consider it gods gift to earth? I only said it was the best looking thing I have seen yet. Also note I said once I did see them, my opinion would change.

Well I apologize for my insulting tone, I will edit my post. My apologies.

But, even with having seen the Halo 3 trailer, it still does not impress me to the level that the MGS4 trailer does, simply because of environment. The MGS4 trailer had life, environment, flexability, etc, it showcased weather, dust, trash, fire, smoke, explosions, facial expressions, a ton of things.

Halo 3...well that trailer pretty much just showed me master cheif...and that's about it.

Ok, I just saw the latest MSG4 trailer and yes it is awesome, no denying that. To be fair I dont think either machine has seen its limits though. Both systems are too new to see what they are capable of. Also I think the reason the halo 3 trailer is lacking is because it wasnt meant to really showcase anything, it was just a "we are still alive, here is our official position as of now" sort of thing. 06-07 are going to be really good years for the game industry, lots of good stuff out from all sides.
