Okay... so basically I have this urge for some reason to make my two computers now into really huge hard drive hogs...

But... my question is do they make a system that will store/hold ONLY hard drives that can be networked to the computers that is STAND ALONE, that does NOT require an operating system and/or memory and all that?

I thought I saw one somewhere before, but I don't remember waht it was called. I have tons of files i like to back up on hard disks instead of burning media discs because it's used quite often, such as porn, home movies, and all the damn music/sound editings i do for companies outside the studios.

You can get nifty little kits like this and just put in the hard drive(s) of your choice.

So what the heck is the difference between that and an external hard drive enclosure??

An external hard drive enclosure needs a puter to run off...it usually plugs into a puter on the network via USB or Firewire....

The NDAS is a little tower that you hook up to the router...it's not a computer...it's pretty much just a case with a hard drive or two and and a network card.

ahh it hooks directly up to the router... hmm that's kinda cool... yeah i might have to look into something like that. I CAN'T believe the multiple ones are like 600 bucks!! :eek
