HELP....'88-'91 CRX SI which one?

i need some help,

im thinkin about buying a CRX SI sumtime soon, but im having a problem of choosing what year. i kno to a lot of people there isn't much of a difference between an '88 to a '91, but there are sum minor differences. Now im wondering if i shouldn't even worry about the year difference and jus choose anyone of the 2nd generation CRXs or what year would you recommend? The reason im having a problem is because i get held up on minor differences such as weight, which i kno is not at all a problem because all of them are very light, or different features for every year, or minor differences like suspension or wiring etc. Also im having a problem cuz of price. The most i wanted to spend on a CRX was around $3000; which is very reasonable, but the newer models, like the '91 are more expensive then an '88. So i guess what im trying to say is which year would you recommend and why? just to remind u i want to get a SI model

Thanks a lot, any advice is much appreciated

i think i've worried about this way too much, so im hoping jus to find a final answer through this thread

get an 90 or 91. IMO, there are a few things that make them a lil better. The corner lenses have screws that hold them on under the hood, rather than on the lense itself. The guage cluster is a lil differen't (just in case you want to throw on the jdm sir guage cluster), same goes w/ the rear lights n' front bumper. And one of the most important reason, its comes w/ rear discs rather than drums. So you dont have to worry bout doing the rear drum to disc conversion in the future. hope this helps, adios
88 is the lightest plus they dont have the door mounted seatbelts, true they ahve drums, but im doing the conversion soon also they have passive four wheel steering, which s on the jdm crx sir, also found on the integra type r, it alows u to drift kinda and get a little side ways time to time, its pretty fun, u just rip a turn and give it a little brake (foot brake) and bamb your kinda drifting, slam the throttle, you are straight again. thou once the i did a 180 through a s turn and almost hit a tree, so be carefull,!!!!!!!!!! the passive steering is fun but also cna be dangerous
the problem is that when you do a rear disc conversion you are forced to replace the rear trailing arms and thus you get rid of the rear passive steering on the car. sucks huh? i went with the 89 si because it was the lightest without the wacky rear steering. contrary to many other people i don't like it because it feels like someone is pushing the rear of the car to the opposite of the way you're turning. sure it may feel cool when you're driving in a "spirited" manner but when you're doing serious slolam corners it really throws you off 'cause it'll make you over correct thinking the car is getting ready to spin. i also like the 89 'cause it still has the better stock alloy wheels. the 90's and 91's are kinda dumb in my opinion. also i wanted yellow. little did i know it was cursed... :)
I would go ahead and get the90- 91 si man. Its the best I have seen out of the whole series.
My pick would be 88 si (ITR RCA's, non-side mounted seabelt) or the 90-91 Si's (rear brakes). If going fast is all you care about, 88HF bay-bee, 1800lbs!
do the ReCaro seats come in all years (88-91) SI models?
Depends what you going to do? If your going to keep it stock looking... go for the 91's.
If you plan on customizing the tailights and stuff like that then it really doesnt matter. Get a 88. They're cheaper! If you plan to make it a Project car, I think the 88's lighter by a few lbs.
91! 91! 91! 91!
:)
I likes ALOT! They look much cleaner and NEWer hahahhaa.
I mean like Un_ DenIable said " it all depends what you want it for!"
I personally would get the 91 just cuz I like the lil window in the back of the trunk. LOL

and cuz I HAD ONE!!!!!!

idunno about that statement the trailing arms are the same its in teh control arms teh passive stearing to my knowledge so in fast u wouldnt loose the rear steering and i like the wacky steering its fun i dont mind it at all
Ive had three now of all diff years.

Like said above.. it all depends on what you want to do with the car. But mainly they are VERY similar. Look around for the best CRX you can get considering MONEY and CONDITION and get that one.

Dont worry too much about 88-89 or 90-91
maybe you should tell us what you have planned for the car then we can tell you for sure!
ok....well at first i wanted to do everything i could; conversions, bodykits, rims, lights, etc. You know how people, especially teenagers, can be when they first get into cars, talking about slapping on a bodykit and sum rims, droppin it, gettin tha biggest and loudest exhaust, etc. But now dat's not my goal for my car, now im more into performance and more of a "deep" sleeper look. Keeping things the closest to stock form, and very subtle. So i guess i want a sleeper and performance designed, but still want it at least to look clean and pleasing, w/o having to put on a bodykit or sumthing else on.

as to wut my plans are...that's another story, deserving it's own thread...im not totally sure, right now i just want a good base to build off...
most likely i'll have to put sum rims on, but keeping them small and light; im for sure going to swap engines. As to what engine..man i ono..i want an engine that's good for drags and autocross. I was thinkin about a B16A, B18C1, B18C5 or maybe a ls/vtec or b20...most of my money is going to the engine, so i need sumthing with good base power. Den der's exhaust n more, but i think this is enough info for now.

u probably jus wanted to kno if my car's gonna be drag or autocross...sleeper or show and i could've jus said i wanted a drag and autocross, sleeping beauty. But i guess jus wanted to be clear, but dis was probably confusing......neways i hoped this helps in finding a clear anwser for my problem, u can probably tell im indecisive.

thanks a lot everyone fo yur advice, it means a lot....keep it coming:D

In the end, they're all CRX SI's...which are damned fine cars. It's all about aesthetics, so I suggest you go for the deal. Best condition for the cheapest price.
I've been in very few 88 Si's that the rear steering was performing properly! All that is is a sloppy bushing that lets the wheel move a little, and most of the time I look at 'em and the bushing is broken anyways. It sounds like you're looking for a 90-91 if you want to keep it fairly stock. I would say that you can't always get the year you want though, you have to consider condition first and foremost. Just keep in mind that there are about $400 more worth of parts on the 90-91's, and a priceless amount of labor and frustration. By far though, worry about what condition the body is in.
i have a 88 crx si

hmm i gotta 88 crx si with all around disc brakes? there cross drilled rotors too wit electron blue brake calipers? i was wonderin if that was modifyied>? also its gotta b16a and apexi vfac which isnt adj and it gives code16 which is fuel injection. i never really felt the wrath yet so how about get a 91 crx si and you can even lighten it a lil then there you go as light as a 88! and anyone who can help me adj my controller hook a brotha up!
