Help quick please! Unplugging headlights

1104 Views 20 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  clique
Okay, it may sound pathetic, but I've got the bumper & grill removed, and the lights are unfastened (so I can clear the corners,) but they won't come out because they're still plugged in. Am I trying to unplug the quarter-sized square in the back center of the headlight housing? It's really greasy, and doesn't seem to want to come out.

You may have to use a flat screw driver to remove the plug. The grease gets hard and can make that thing stick. Just take it slow and it will come off. :D

I got the turning signal out easy... but this bastard ain't coming out :p Should I just continue wiggling and pulling? Is there anything at risk of breaking? And, will this plug go back in easily? I only have 3 1/2 hours to go :(
There are pressure tabs on the back of the housing(black square) that you have to pinch to get it off. If you have that off and are having trouble getting the light out of the housing then the its likely the metal spring that you still need to remove.
I finally got the bulbs out, thanks a lot for the help... now I can't get the sealant to seperate :p Damn...

Are you by yourself doing this
You thought that headlight removal was hard, wait until you start trying to open the SOB's up!!

If you don't have a 2nd set of hands I'd hang it up and wait until you do. $hit is a bitch getting into.
If your by yourself it's going to be rought. Take the hair dryer and just heat up small parts of the glue and take a flat tip screw driver and get as much of that $hit out as possible. Do this all around and then you can try and pry it apart.

See when I did my buddies last week, he kept the hair dryer going, I was digging with a screw driver. Once we got a lot of the glue out, he kept the hair dryer going and I used both hands to start prying it apart. He then took his 2nd hand and was using a razor blade to cut the glue as I pried it all apart. A real bitch!!
Definitely; I had NO idea it was this hard. It took me about 20 minutes just to get one section separated... I seriously don't have the time to pull this off today :( Time to heat it back up, seal it back up, and reassemble the car... Well, hey, at least I know how easy it is to get the bumper off now :D Thanks anyways for the help, all. I'll try it this weekend perhaps, with a friend or two...

I knew you'd be back :D

Yeah, definitely a two person job!!

That sucks ass that you got to put the shit back together like it came out

good luck next time ;)

Thanks man... I don't know about the headlights, I might just settle for some actual clear headlights off eBay or something... It seems like a real bitch getting the sealant apart, plus, I couldn't really seal the headlight I started on completely back together. Hopefully, the sealant keeps most of the precipitation out of the headlight :p

A friend of mine says the rear tails are much, much easier. I might give that a shot before I go to work... I've got about an hour left. Any word on the rears? I'm thinking they'll look similar to GhostRider's altezzas; red on top, clear on bottoms (just removing the orange section.)

Do you have fagtezzas? I imagine so, since the stocks are stuck the way they come on the civic. I believe he just painted over the lens of his tails. Does look good though!!

Just wait until you got a helper and about 4 hours. It will take you about 3 - 3 1/2 to clear them out. Wehn resealing you just got to get as much glue out of there as possible and it goes back together quite nicely. As long as you get the clips into and over each other and seal it up real good, you'll be good to go!!

Use the $200 for something else!! ...or come up here and I'll help you out :) (If you really need the help and thinking about blowing the $200, I'll give you a hand).
I was thinking about buying some sealant, and removing basically all of the goopy crap from the lights (when I try it again.) And just reseal it with the new stuff. I just might take you up on that offer of helping :p Most of my friends really wouldn't know what to do, but I can't imagine holding a hair dryer over a light would be too difficult.

And for the record, I'll never have fagtezzas!!! :D

Glad to here you don't have fagtezzas :) I don't know what you are talking about clearing the tail lights out  The orange is on the actual tail lamp. Not like a 95 Accord where you can take the orange reflctor out, ya know?

Oh, and you say you will get all the old sealant out now :p ....you'll get just enough out to get them back together. The $hit is a bitch to deal with. To even budge the stuff you got to keep heating it. Sucks the big one.

How far are you away from Orlando anyhow? ...Say Universal Studios! I'm like 8 minutes from there.

I'm roughly 50 mins to an hour away from Orlando; I just went up there in early February for the Orlando Annual Import show at the Fairgrounds. Not a bad drive at all :)

PROBLEM THOUGH; I can't get the damn bumper back on!! It slid on fine, but the grill pegs won't go in. I don't really know how to explain this one, but I'm running short on time :(

Make sure the grill is OVER the top of the front!!
I believe we put the top in first than the bottom fell right in place. It's a lot easier with 2 people and taking it off. Still not a big deal putting it on though. Just do like I said :)
I got it back on!! :D The black plastic of the grill was on top, in the right spot, but wasn't fitting. So I unfastened the two bolts and screws (under the car and in front of the wheels respectively,) and readjusted it -- worked just right. Anyhow, here's those pictures I promised of the stock airbox:

I heard my dog barking around 2 PM (as he always does when he sees someone/something outfront of the house) when I was in my room getting help on the headlights, and I'm thinking oh shit, its UPS. I get out there, and sure enough, it's UPS! But wait, where's the driver? He's knocking on my neighbors door... son of a bitch :p Looks like I'll have to wait just a little while longer for my CAI :(
