so, im gettin the turbo installed this week. and now im in the market for a programable fuel/ignition computer. i've pretty much narrowed it down the the Hondata4B, Haltech E6k or Accel DFI. has anyone had any experience with any of them? any help would be cool. thanks.

I have experience with all of these systems and a few more..

What is your budget?
what are you goals (Horsepower and use for car)?
Does your car run properly with the stock wiring harness?

answer these questions and it narrows down the choices..

why go for the haltech, when you can get the AEM standalone unit and its windows friendly... easier tuning... and you can do everything you can with the haltech... as a bonus, you can turn the hazards on at 130
what does hazards at 130 have to do with engine management??
isn't Haltech or DFI better than Hdata?

Correct me if I am wrong.

lol... it was a joke, but i heard the aem unit can do it...
hey st00pid

I had a question for u.. my buddy said the hondata will be the best for my car..is this ture or not? now let me answer ur question
1. less then 2g pls...
2. 600hp monstor at drag but this is going to be a daily driven car.. I want to have 2 setting for my car.. one for full boost for drag racing and one for street driving 1.5 bar is go enouhg for street.
3. I don't think so..

My setup is at the my sig..Please put any comments to help me out.. cause i don't have my turbo kit yet because i am still breaking in my built motor...
i plan on a hp goal of about 350ish, the car is gonna be my dailer driver/weekend warrior type. i plan on fully building the engine. and yes the car does run great with the stock wiring harness. my budget would be around 1-1.3k for the unit alone, no dyno or tuning included.
If you are going to race the car on a regular basis, one of the programmable systems is a better choice. You can have two completely different maps (management programs) - one for lower boost on 92 oct and one for higher boost on race gas. It is better to have two complete maps because you can get much more aggressive with ignition timming with race fuel. If you just have one program the goes up to the higher boost level, you are not taking full advantage of the race gas.

Go to the track, pour in race gas, use a laptop to load the race map and off you go. When you are finished, just load the street map back in and drive home. Both the Haltec and ACCEL systems are good. The AEM system sounds great, but has no track record yet, so I can't comment on it. Although, the cool thing about he AEM hardware is that it plugs into the factory harness.

I have a Motec on my car and I love it.

Good luck.
Kaser,

for what you are trying to do the Hondata may be the way to go. . The catch is that to stay under your budget limit you need to find a Hondata tuner or someone that has a 4B and will help you. The next choice would be the AEM, it is a great unit and will offer you what you need but is more expensive (~$1400) Both systems will help you accomplish your goals perfectly..

dptkfil,

I think 600hp is going to be a pretty far stretch for Hondata.. If you are having problems with your wiring harness, then that also kills AEMs PnP system.. Speed Pro (FAST) has a Honda specific harness. DFI7 is also a great choice but lacks the Honda harness, instead comes with a universal 4cyl harness. Both Speed Pro and DFI7 have wide Band O2 options and both can be run sequential. DFI is a bit more cost effective at about 500-1000 less than Speed Pro.

Haltech hasnt come out with any new features in quite sometime and has fallen behind a bit. Haltech can be run sequential and has some pretty cool features like antilag and some others..

I hope this doesnt make the choice more difficult..

Thanks for ur input... I think i will just stay with DFI7... Regarding the harness, my buddy can install it and tune it for me.. so i guess i am lucky hehe :)... What about the AEM unit?? He didn't recommand it to me because he had no experience with it yet.. but he will get one and put it on his turbo charge b18c engine and see wut up.. or his other full built drag crx...
AEM will be a while before its regularly recommended.. its going to take a little bit of time.
thanks jason for the info. i was leanin toward the hondata4b. just wanted some other opinions. but thats what im gonna go for.
My problem is finding a hondata dealer around, I was planning on obd I ecu swap and hondata 2b but don't know anybody around here to tune it! I have a b18c1 and plan on running 9psi on drag III unti I can build engine, what do you think about the Apexi Power FC, I'm asking because Boosted3g lives near me and has one and is capable of tuning it! I'm not sure what else to do because I plan on only spending around $1200 tuned?
you can have your ecu sent into hondata directly and they will do the mods to your ecu. as for tuning it. they can burn you a base program if you tell them what your setup is. but for fine tuning you'll have to find someone with a hondata4 who know's how to write and burn chips for you or you'll have to goto the nearest dealer/tuner.
jamal, Hondata has INCREDIBLE customer service and will try to help you in anyway they can.. Doug can send you a program that will be very close to what you need Im sure. I am very certain that you can find someone with a stage 4 to tune your car in your area. You should email Hondata to see if they can help you find someone in your area that can help you.

If you have a Hondata and go to the track on a regular basis, how do you switch to a race gas program? Do you physically swap out chips?

i might be wrong, but i think that you do swap chips, for different programs.
