hey, V6 peeps...what's the best thing to use to get scratches out of hood? They're pretty deep and long...and since it's the hood, I think touch up paint would look ugly...if there is no good solution, i may consider a CF hood...thx...
there really isnt much you can do by yourself for deep scratches. you could try using some stuff like meguiars scratch-x, but that stuff is really only for light scratches so it probably wouldnt work. definitely stay away from touch up paint, though because you will notice it a whole lot on your hood. if the scratches are really bothering you, its just an excuse to go w/ a cf hood like you said.
put tape around the scatch area(right next to the scatch), then apply touch up paint...........use the OEM brush to smooth the surface..........after u finish take away the tape and let it dry
thx for all the responses...i may have made it sound worse- it's not really that deep- it looks likes it was keyed...but i doubt it was that...i will try that Dupli-Color thingy...but as for the tape- isn't that going to look really bad if you paint this huge rectangle?
the tapes around the scratch area is for you to not paint to the other areas that u don't want to paint. You can paint over the tape right next to the scratch(put the tape as NEAR as possible to the scatch).for exampe, put 4 tapes around the scatch that look like a "rectangle" after u finish painting yr scatch, u can take away the tape. So u will only leave a small rectangle on your paint.
If u don't put the tape around the sratch, it is very easy for u to paint over some areas that you DO NOT want to paint
hehe...yeah...i sorta thought it was around the whole thing...but now that i think about it- it might be a better idea. however, will it be raised? plus should i get some clear coat?
paint the scatch as thick as the tape (no more than the tape),if it rises up or over painted, then u can use the OEM brush wipe it off to the tape next to the scatch.
NEVER USE ANY CLOTHES OR other thing to wipe off the touch up paint.
Don't use the touch up paint on anything that is metal like your hood! I would only use it on the bumpers or side skirts because no one really sees the small details. It will TOTALLY STAND OUT on your hood.. I know from experience.. I used a lil bit on my door and I tried to smooth it out as best I could but looks facked up now.. I am gettin the whole door repainted so. I recommend trying mothers or any brand scracth removal first.. then go to a shop if it doesn't work.
Just last week Fox News in Chicago did a study on those scratch removers including Meguirars X Scratch, that As Seen on TV scracth remover and other name brands one. They found that none of them work and they were testing it on light surface scratches. A couple of them worked but still the scratch was visible and after they took the car through a car wash all the scracths came back. So you would just have to re apply the scratch remover again and again everytime after your car is washed.
The News people concluded that the only way to remove scratches is to take it to a body shop where they have the "industrial strength" scratch remover stuff, where if used imporperly could damage the whole paint so thats why its only avalible in body shops. They also said expect to pay $75-$200 to take care of the scratches.
time to get CF hood!!!
my car got hit and run couple months ago, i paid for $500 to repair and repaint the hood, but their crapy paint job really made me disappointed.
