man, I indeed am a caveman, but I am really confused right now on how to buff a car. Does my car need to be buffed/polished? Well its a 90 integra, paint is still there, and clear coat is there. No fading, well not much. Can you guys help me out? o, and I bought this 6" buffer/polisher comes with 2 bonnets, a fuxxy one and another not too fuzzy.

Buffing "takes away" from your clearcoat, that's why I, myself,
avoid it. Once I have the "mechanicals" perfected, and the
minor dings removed, the "finishing touch" will be a "professional"
buff. The last time I had it done, by the "pros", was in '93, to
my '88 CRX Si; it cost me $119.00+, but the paint looked new.
The damn car looked new! My advice: if you're "not sure" about
something, (like YOU are here), PAY to have it done, especially
if it's "your baby".
120$
Thats alot, Thanks for the info though.Do you know what the "pros" did to your car? Is this done at a regular shop?
It was done at Honda Carland, (I'm sure they "sub-contract",
though, so who knows?). That bitch was "AS new", though,
and I'd say WELL WORTH the $119.00+.
But HELL, you already bought the "shit", (just "reading BACK"),
so I'd check the "appearence" area of this site for better info before you go "all out" :D. From what I've read, it's not too hard,
though; but it does take away from your clear-coat, so be careful.
Damn man! you DIY'ers are freakin' crazy! I'd have a heart attack
if I had to buff my Sol, (unless it was "by hand", of course :)).
yea, when u buff it urself be really careful not to stay in one place too long and be careful around the mirrors, door handles, and others odd shaped areas. the first car i buffed was just for practice at the body shop and it was an 89 ford ranger that was pretty crappy but i just needed practice and i buffed the front corner a little too hard and ripped the paint right off in a quarter size area. Once u do it a few times its simple.
what kind of buffer did you get? i hope you got a random orbital since those are a lot easier to manage and a bit more lenient. just be sure to keep it moving. i, personally, do all my detailing by hand, just to be one the safe side. it might take a little bit longer, but i get the results i want, plus i get that nice satisfying feeling one gets after doing some work themselves. kinda like that feeling after all the dishes are washed and clean :D

yes i have the random orbital. I assume there is some kind o "lotion" or liquid that they use with the pads? If so what would you reccomend?
well, there's plenty of different quality polishes out there. a lot of ppl recommend zaino's. i've been told it's quite a lengthy process for the 1st time, but it yields amazing results and is easy as pie for subsequent applications.

i, myself, am satisfied with meguiar's professional line. . . my two favorite polishes are #5 new car glaze and #7 show car glaze.. these come in the tan bottles (the burgundy are crap). they leave an amazing shine. . .

if you're still doubtful about how to use your random orbital, check out THIS LINK for a little bit of information. it takes them a long time to get to the point, since a lot of advertisement for their product, but they show u how to use it near the end.

any other questions, feel free to ask.

ps: for those who were wondering, yes i am a scholar of scott lol :D
Thanks man, much appreciated:cool:
where can I get those meguiars?
meguairs.com has an online store
procarparts.com also carries them

you could check the meguairs web site and look for a local distributor... auto parts supply stores usually carry them.
alright, I am still confused....:( Does the wax removfe the clear coat of my car while I buff? There supposed to be a first solution to remove it?
