JDM vs. USDM gsr motors

ecu's have a 130 mph governor. also the comp ration is usually around .2 points higher, it depends on the engine.

Is it worth spending a couple extra hundred for the jdm version?

how much more is the motor? it all depends on cost.

wasnt another reason it had 10 more hp was because of less emissions equip?

no, the difference in the USDM B18C1 and the JDM B18C1 is the ECU maps(more agressive because of fuel availiable) and the fact they have higher octane gas over there available at the pump and Less restrictive emissions. So these 170hp B16's and 180hp B18c's are just like USDM engines with the exception of compression ratio and other small features that protect the engines life and don't increase hp output.:sonic:

Don't forget the 4-1 Header.

the higher cr ratio, more aggresive header, and the fuel maps causes the 10 hp difference. imo it's not worth the extra $ for the extra 10 horses. get a intake and exhaust and you'll make up for the difference.

the reason for the extra 10 horses is not because japan has slack emission requirements, the oppossite is true. after 40K miles the engines have to be replaced because they dont' meet japan's super strict emissions requirements anymore. that's where most of the 'jdm' engines come from.

it's becasue that and also becasue of their fuel, they get better fuel, like 96-97 octane or something
