Isn't it bad to change the oil before the first scheduled time (I believe 5000 miles)?

I heard that the break-in oil had special stuff in it to assist with the break-in. Maybe I was mistaken though.

Never believe everything you read. My friend's RSX had his oil changed at 4000km and the oil that came out was really really black... Will I hurt my engine by changing the oil? I don't think so. Will I hurt my engine by changing the oil at the scheduled time (5000 miles)? probably because anyone will tell you that it is a ridiculously long time.

The first Sced maint. on the RSX is at 10,000 miles
as crazy as it sounds thats what Acura told us at our dealership.
5000 miles (8000 km)under severe driving conditions according to the owner's manual... which is the category that almost everybody falls under. In you only do highway driving in ideal conditions, then you fall under the 10,000miles (16000km) service interval category... which is the category that almost nobody falls under.

Another thing is, it's your car, not theirs. They just read what the papers in front of them say.

I think what elric said is correct, there is some special components to the oem oil in your car to help break it in. I have a freind doing his degree on machanical engineering and he says its best to change your oil after 3000km and its also the official time your car has "broke in"

I will second (or third) the idea that it is NOT good to change oil too soon.

A friend of mine at Honda America (in the R&D dept) told me that there is definitely an additive that is placed in the new engines and that it should stay in there until first scheduled change. changing sooner is not a big deal ONLY IF you are putting the same oil back in (which you are not).

So what happens when you buy an RSX that burns oil? What to do then? I mean you have to add oil at least right??? In case you people don't know yet, some RSX's burn oil. Best check your oil now to see if it's up to level.
