you will have major prolbems sterring and it will be hell on your front end go with a b16a or b18a
  • !!!!!ARGH!!!!!
Suspension and brake upgrades are a good idea on ANY swap.
  • A B-series engine is 85 lbs heavier than a stock D-series engine.
  • A H22A drivetrain is 175 to 185 lbs heavier than a stock D-series drivetrain, therefore...
  • A H22A swap is only 90 to 100 lbs heavier than a B-series swap.

Can we please stop this foolish MYTH? We're not talking Cummins Diesel. Here's what a H22A swap looks like:
Does this look like it's going to "be hell on your front end"???

Make it a Sticky!!!

People are always telling me that when I get my H22a in, it'll be hell. But that amount of weight difference is very negliable especially in a hatch that only weighs 2180lbs with full tank of gas.
BDC is the man...that's all I gotta say.
Oh my god! It's so huge! How can that engine bay possibly contain it! The H22A will destroy us all! AHHHHHH!

wow i cant tell where he ends and you begin :)

any way i want to add to BDC post :) another urban legend is that theres no way to keep your ac and ps with a h22 swap :) thats not true at all ,ive seen h22 civic with ac and ps :) all you have to do is relocate the two unit :) which as far as i know is pretty easy :)

What costs more? a B18C1 swap or a H22a swap?

I won't lie to you. The H22A is a difficult swap, so it costs more. IMO, it's worth the difference in price for 'bragging rights' alone. Here's an example of costs for various swaps. I don't recommend you use these guys, mind you. I like HASport in Phoenix. But, this'll give you a rough idea.

These guys charge the same for a Gen 6 swap, but a few hundred less for Gen 5...

wow, approx 2 grand cheaper for a B18B.. hmm.. can't decide.. :(.. What would you do BDC, I'm doing a project 5th Gen HB, Daily driven but want it to be as fast as possible.. Turbo and all the works.. Looking to finish the whole project in a year.
I would also like it if u can clear this up for me too. Will the turbo fit in the engine bay???
And also wut about the H22 SS, I wanna keep it an auto.
So will the gear box and ect... fit too?

I know that was a rhetorical question but, personally, my first choice would be a LS/VTEC, closely followed by a H22A. Without a doubt, the H22A is THE ultimate swap for a CiViC, but a properly built LS/VTEC will hold its own in most street racing situations. In the infamous "CiViC vs. Ferarri" video, it was a LS/VTEC CiViC that kicked the Ferrari F355's ass!

The point of this thread, however, is that a H22A engine is NOT that heavy and won't "be hell on your front end" as many uninformed ppl will try to tell you. I just wanted to get the facts out into the open for everyone to see, and try to put a little pressure on the nay-sayers to keep their tired cliches to themselves...

Don't know about the auto. Maybe someone else does. I know you're going to have to go with the whole 'Lude drivetrain. I just don't know if a H22A slushbox will fit.

As far as the turbo goes, that's NO problem. Here's some more pix. Look at how much room there is in front of the header area:

The yellow car is LJ's ride. Before everyone jumps my sh!t; yes I know it has a BOV and no turbo present. He added a turbo and nitrous since this pic was taken.

Looks like Heaven to me!!!!!:)
Hey BDC, Wut do u recomend for an auto swap in 6G Civic.
LS\ VTEC, ECU problems < Needs one thats revs high enough>
H22, money problems. and a lot of mods.
JDM auto GSR, ECU problems< dunno if it will match up with Civic>

ThX
" Dezoris " Maybe some of us juss want to do sumthing a lil different. There are so many Civics around, trying to be different is very hard to do. Everybody and their momma has a bodykit on their cars now. While back in the day, All u needed was a kit and drop to be unique. This is y I asked the question in the first place.
I can always get great info and advice from SHO and ICCH <Import Car Club of Houston> I want to do as much research as I can before I get started on somethng that costs a lot of money. If U do not have any good information about the question, PLEASE do not reply. I am sick and tired of the Civic forum being how it was before the server change. It was so bad that we had to split Non-tech. and Tech. If I wanted your opion, then I would have asked for it.
if it came in the car stock in japan or another country fine and dandy, but a prelude motor in a civic is just overkill, theres a few here and they suck, they never run right, when they do they are slow
" DOHC EF3"if it came in the car stock in japan or another country fine and dandy
Wut do U mean by this? I talked to one of the mechanics at Hyper and he said the JDM GSR auto ECU might not work with the 6G Civic. I think it was the wireing harrness or something like that.
Anybody might know somthing about this?

I think it is a waste of money. Too much work, and how the fuck would you ever change the timing belt or pull the cam out of there, if you needed to do tuning?

Once it is in it is in for good, I would rather buy a prelude, if for nothing than having the proper suspension geometry. Although, the civic may be faster the Prelude is way more balanced and composed in road holding.

Swap this swap that, what a pain in the ass, look at those prices!!!

5-7k for as swap I bet maybe .02% of you would ever do that.
I know everyone just has that laying around for a swap on their civic that is already financed or probably leased :)

I know how BDC feels about turbos in Hondas but look at the labor compared, and you learn a lot more about tuning and rebuilding than you do from just swapping in a motor that is crammed in there so tight, that making these cars daily drives is nearly impossible, you want bragging rights buy a 911 turbo.
WhaT??!!!thats so gay..u arnt shit if u got a stock lude..u think ppl are gonna give u props for ur car if thats the way it came from the dealer???? what if some1 had a civic ex and did a full si conversion, engine and everything..is a si from the dealer better than that ex??HELL NO!!!!!..its all about fixin up ya car...Man..id give props to the guy with the sohc whos runnin 12's over the guy with the v6 runnin 9's and 10's any day...hope u get the picture

Okay, let's test the theory. Instead of doing a H22A swap with a turbo, let's just be lazy, go buy a 'Lude and turbo that. Here's what a turboed 'Lude looks like:
What do you think, bros? Does this 3100+ lbs mechanical nightmare appeal to you? Does it look more "balanced and composed" than the H22A CiViC pix above?

And, how the fuck would you change the timing belt or pull the cam out of THERE, Mr. D???
