Limp seatbelt retracting

The shoulder harness on my civic is really acting shitty these days. It only retracts about 1/3 of the way when you unhook you the seatbelt, leaving a bunch of loose shoulder harness slack laying all over the seat. I'm gonna tear it out this afternoon and see what's up with it, but I wanted to know before hand if there is anything I should be aware of. Is there something in there I can re-tighten on my own, or should I deal this kind of thing to a dealer?

Mine does the same thing and it's only 18 months old. There isn't much you can do other than make sure it's not twisted. That's what usually happens to mine. I just release the buckle and let it back easy and it falls into place.

Prepare to get frustrated.. frick.. my GF's 93 Civic hatch.. omg.. to get to the actual retractor u have to take off the whole entire quarter piece inside ur car.. and the last bolt is the hardest.. u need like a special tool. i flipped cuz i couldn't do it.. hehe i gave up.. the seatbelt is limp and just lays there unless i manually put it back into its proper position..

hey all of you....go to your nearest honda dealer..they will fix it for free...same thing hapened to my civic..its a life time warranty if they can't fix it they order a brand new one....hope it helped

That's pretty badass - life time warranty on the car or the original buyer?

THERE WAS ACTUALLY A RECALL FOR THAT ...SHOULDNT MATTER IF YOUR CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY HONDA WILL FIX IT FREE

Hondas have a lifetime warranty on their seatbelts. when I bought my newest project ( 95' hatch) the rear seatbelts were pulled all the way out and the front belts wouldn't retract for shit, so i went to my dealership and they replaced all 4 for free. So I recomend you checking into thAT. Good Luck.

Replace as in replaced the retracting mechnisim thang or the entire belts etc?
