Which tranny has a LSD already equipped? I think its the Ys1 or something like that. I need one for racing and have no clue where to look for it.

which motor do you have? b16?
Nope d16A...just read that the Ys1 is for the b16..damn

Any tranny for the d16 have a LSD? Or do I just have to add one on?
i figured you had a d-series motor...thats why i ask you if you had a b16 before i replied

some zc motors in japan have a stock lsd but the are extremely rare and are very hard to find. i believe there is a company named KAAZ that makes a differential for d-series motors that isnt that expensive.
thats what I thought. oh well..better start savin up then. thanks for the help.
KAAZ, Phantom Grip, Quaife(Dseries App?)

differences in these -- pros vs cons

EXPERIENCES GUYS????
Look at what type they are, and you'll get your answer. The clutch's strong points are road race, autocross, and high horsepower because it will slip if it has too, and try not to rip itself up. Mechanical/Gear like quaife is best suited for drag racing because it has an on/off feeling. Phantom grip, I would imagine to be very unaffective in a road course, or under high torque loads, especially as it gets older, since it essentially a spring pushing two plates against the gears in a stock diff. I can't speak for the last one, but in my experience, I would recommend a clutch pack, the downside is high maintenence.
screw it im pegged legged and i can handle it (sob) =(
Phantom Grip Sux... that is all.
I learn new things all the time.

Anybody know about the KAAZ?
k...somebody tell me if i'm right, but this is what i know:
there are 3 different types of LSDs
1. helical - gear type. Usually either "off" or "on" no inbetween. Best for drag not circuit racing. Downside, if one tire lifts up in a corner it can actually break the LSD
2. vicious - Works using some kind of fluid in the LSD. I think the R34, Evo's and WRXs use this kind of LSD
3. clutch (kind honda uses?) - works very much like the clutch for a transmission. Downside, needs service after a while
I wasn't too sure about this stuff, i'm just trying to clear up some of the things that i've learned. Can someone actually break it down for us. and explain the different between 1, 1.5, and 2 way

Oh yeah....
quaife uses a helical/gear type right?
What kind of LSDs do KAAZ and Cusco use? I'm looking for a good one for road race.
See less See more
We are looking for the same thing apparently.

Somebody should know this!
KAAZ and Cusco are both clutch type LSD's.
1,1.5, and 2 way refers to the locking effect after the throttle is released. A one way will have no effect after lifting, a 1.5 will only exert half of the force to lock the wheels after lifting, and a two way will have the same locking effect whether accelerating or decelerating.

As far as viscous, they are generally only used for center differentials, and thus not available for our cars at all.
so are these the LSD to buy for a non-drag car.
for street/road race
the phanton grip will be fine for road race and and lower hp cars for drag racing
that is the direction Im leaning towards.

I am not going to have a ridiculouly high hp turbo engine

Do you own one of these? Just based on design I can't see that it would be able to handle the torque load on a car exiting corners at extreme angels. One wheel is going to turn faster to make it around a corner, then couple that with the added stress of the engine in a lower gear, and I can't see how four little springs are going to hold up. I'd love to know more about it if you own one of these, as I have not dealt with that unit at all.
LSD owns you :)
one thing about phantom grip, you get what you pay for. i read some where that the way the phantom works is that when you excelerate, the two metal half spring outward locking up the inside gears. works like pausey traction on muscle cars. only good at drag strip and bad for road track because of crazy understeer.

DAFeLUNG, are you sure that Honda uses clutch types because Tuan told me that they use gear type. there was a very good thread on LSD in the teg forume but it was in the old version.
