Xp isn't that bad, and it shouldn't cause a meltdown
Check your wires, listen to your fans to see if they're making noises. If you're sure it's your hard drive, then bring it to the professionals to get it fixed, but it'll usually cost alot. so i'll recommend u buying a new one, unless you have something really important inside the hard drive.
