Here is the start i guess....members feel free to ask any questions concerning technical, cosmetic or even site info questions...

THESE QUESTIONS ARE ONLY FOR v00tecsi & myflysi !!!!

To: myflysi

1)What's the best fuel rating for an Si?

2)What is the displacment of an Si engine?

To: v00tecsi

3)What are the best headers when it comes to torque gains?

5)What gains can I expect with a supercharger? Turbo?

6)How much HP does the Si have...(hint: trick question)?

(just trying to simulate the daily questions) This seems like a debate lol.

It would help if you were a little more clear about the best "fuel" rating for an si- since youre question lacks the clarity it needs to be answered specifically, im gonna have to go with one answer- its the one found in the honda owners manual that says you are not to use anything below 92 octane with an si- my best personally, cause im not cheap- is 94- other than that bro, the best fuel rating all depends on your wallet- and for your answer to question two, the honda civic si motor is a 1.6 liter DOHC VTEC, cranking out 100HP per liter. Im glad I could help :D

-When it comes to "headers" for the si, Ill recommend one and only one HEADER (seeing as how the si only has one) and that is the COMPTECH 4-2-1- this is the best header on the market for the most useable low and mid range power/torque gains

-gains from a supercharger? how about two different brands?

* the jackson racing will give you approx. 50 more HP to the fly wheel, as well as a 39 ft/lbs boost in torque

*the vortech supercharger will increase horsepower to 277 and torque to 175 ft/lbs with the power cooler

- as far as a turbo goes how about the DRAG Gen 3 Turbo Kit? this kit includes everything to produce approx 120 reliable horsepower, and 90 ft/lbs. of torque. that sounds fun doesnt it?

how much horsepower does an SI have? what kind of trick question is that? 160 at the flywheel transferring to approx. 141 HP at the wheels :D

After reading over everything again there are a few things we wanted to add...

To further answer question #3 we wanted to post some of the other options out there when purchasing a header...

A commonly asked question is:

"What’s the difference between a 4-2-1 header, and 4-1 header?"

Either one of the choices is going to give you gains, but in different ways.

Lets use the DC sports header for example...

This is the DC sports 4-1 header.

When using a 4-1 header you can expect to loose some low-end torque, but expect good high-end gains in torque and horsepower. MSRP on this header is about $450.00 expect to pay anywhere from $350.00 to $400.00.

The other choice, again using the DC sports header, as an example is the 4-2-1 header...

With a 4-2-1 header you can expect to see more low-end gains in torque, and horsepower then the 4-1, but not quite as much in the high end. Expect to pay about the same amount as you would for the 4-1 header.

Here is a dyno chart of the DC 4-2-1 header Vs. the DC 4-1 header:

As you can see the 4-1 has more gains in top-end.

Here are two dyno results showing the difference between a 4-2-1 header vs. stock, and a 4-1 header vs. stock:

For those of you that are still torn between which header to chose, some good advice is...
If your only planning on getting I/H/E go with the 4-2-1 for it will be the most beneficial for those mods.

The 4-1 may be a better choice if you are planning to do some internal mods, such as upgrading your cams.

I hope MYFLYSI, and myself were able to help you better understand the differences between the two choices.

If you have any other questions about which header is best for you, please ask either myflysi or myself :D

Now id like to ask another for you guys, since this is a COMMON thing that not many people ask about. how bout you describe how to interprut those Dyno plots. explain the base runs vs the secondary. explain ideal torque curves. explain how a dyno jet works, how a mustang dyno works etc etc.

Ill work on explaining all that to you after just a few answers from yourself:

1. why did you buy a turbo off of ebay if you dont know what kind of turbo it is?

2. how much does no name turbo that you dont know anything about cost?

3. why do you want to know about a mustang dyno? im not here to demonstrate what I know about mustangs- and if youre going to reply with a statement like "well if youre going to be a mod, you need to know everything" well, i dont need to know everything, unless i planned on taking over all of SHO, which im not, im just trying to help out with the CIVIC SI section- im not trying to gain a spot in the tech section, the off-topic section, or the non existent mustang section. there are other guys that are on here to help you with those types of questions, so why not ask them to do there jobs instead

4. If you want me to explain the base run vs. the secondary, why not just read what you posted instead?. You typed base run, then you typed secondary- well, the first run is the base run to establish base HP and the secondary run would obviously be the secondary run wouldnt it? this run is usually done after modifcations or adjustments have been made- or possibly to double check the first runs readouts-

5. Ideal torque curves? What is an idea torque curve for you? Your questions are far too broad and only partially make sense- the idea torgue curve depends on the driver and what he is would like his car to do- whether hes racing or street driving on a daily basis plays a big part in this, and who is to decide other than the driver what this ideal curve is?

6. Finally, if you wanted to know how a dyno worked, would you first check the Civic Si/Sir forum? I dont think you would. The tech section is just around the corner-

Peace :D

Like MYFLYSI said...We both know our stuff. I feel that we both have proved to the rest of the board that we know a fair amount about Hondas, and both have extensive knowledge of the Si.

I think we may be missing a big part of this whole moderator position though. Not only do we need to know our stuff, but we also need to:

1. Be around the boards on a regular basis to make sure everything is running smoothly.

2. Be willing to help out other members with an answer to their question, or be able to offer good helpful advice.

3. Provide a peaceful and calm forum, keep the board clean, and most of all argument free.

4. Always make new members feel welcome.

5. Be able to work together with the other mods. (Which I have to say MYFLYSI, and myself have been doing very well the past few days.)

I feel that MYFLYSI, and myself have all of these important characteristics that someone needs to have to be a moderator.

The test ideas were great, and I think it provided the rest of the members with the reassurance that both MYFLYSI, and myself know what we're talking about, and that we are capable of answering pretty much any question thrown at us.

However, what you guys should be doing, is going back through some old posts, to see the kind of responses to other members both of us have provided. I am confident that you will be pleased.
(There are a few that got out of hand, which were reported to mike_sho, and deleted) however, both MYFLYSI, and myself tried as best as we could to keep the posts from turning into a flame war. If either one of us had mod status at the time the posts would have been closed a lot sooner.

I guess all of us will just have to wait for Mike to make his decision...
