I priced the harnesses back in 99 when I first started using the high wattage bulbs, because I was worried too. the harnesses were over $100 and people were telling me not to worry. I have heard a couple people say their wires did melt. But, no problems here...

Ok, I've had like every kind of superwhite bulb for headlight turnsignal whatever, every kind of voltage 55w, 65, 70, 80, 100, 130. They will not melt your wires but over time they will burn themselves out because they generate too much heat and the headlight cannot cool the bulb adequeately. Some brands are better than others, some take days to burn out, some take months, maybe a year, but they will all burn out eventually. I've noticed the Nokyia to last the longest so far. I got so tired of buying new bulbs I went back to stocks.

Oh, by the way, if one burns out, the other headlight then draws even more current than usual so if you only buy one replacement bulb, the other will burn out very shortly after.

On another note, I even re-wired my turnsignals to stay bright all the time and blink when I turned, that didn't melt the wires either, but it did melt the headlight sort of.

smell ya later......

One more thing too, sometimes, it will melt the connector that attaches to the bulb. I don't think it's cause its too hot, just shitty brand headlight bulbs. My buddy had to get one from a junkyard, cut his off and replace it.

Save up, go HID.

My personal choice, forget headlights, they don't make you go faster, spend that money on some performance!

I hate to break it to all of ya'll, but the aftermarket headlights may say 100/90, 90/ 85, or whatever it may be, but the bulbs will NEVER output that much light. The car sends the factory setting input current, and it never deviates. If those bulbs really did draw that much current to produce that high a wattage of output, the headlight fuse would blow in an instant, and would blow everytime you would replace it (with the same amperage fuse of course). Of course, why would you stick any fuse higher in anyway? That's just asking for trouble. Hate to break this news to you all too, but heat is a byproduct of high current passing through any wire.

I'm not saying that the lights are bad, I use Cuzo Hyper Whites which supposedly produce 90/100 watts (of course, they don't), and they look awesome. I've been using them for over a year, without the slightest hint of problems.

Just thought I'd let you all know that you won't melt wires, and you won't need new wire harnesses and shit. I don't know where the hell you people found that useless false information from.

So go ahead, and stick any bulb in there you want.

um,,,some of the previous statements are BS!!!
i have high wattage bulbs, and yeah, it was probably the stupidest thing i've done. Basically, the connectors are just fried!!! like, the inside of it where it attaches to the bulb. Now, sometimes my fucking headlight cuts out because the harness is fried!!! I have NO clue where to find a highwattage harness for my bulbs. Basically i was going to invest in HID, but the H4 housing of a civic is totally worthless to retro HID into it.
any suggestions?

lets just say, if your housings are made out of plastic,,,like the 98+ ones,,,then you have an increased chance of melting the housings. Mine are glass, so they will be fine. As far as the wiring goes,,,,it most likely will melt. I havent even used my damn bulbs that much, and the harnesses are melting, so go figure! Plus the high wattage bulbs wont put anymore light on the ground compared to stock wattage. Your electrical wires werent made to put that much wattage through them first of all.

And by the looks of your wiring harnesses in the 95 ex, it looks to be a bitch to replace out bro ;)..........I have noticed that on my 00 Si the stranded wires going to the headlights are a lot more stiff, the heat is melting the strands together and then eventually it will burn through and short out or start a fire. HID wannabe bulbs are a waste of money, I will never buy another set for my car ever again.
