Yeah bash it you'll feel better. The Alt. is easy to replace on bolt on top one on the bottom. Make sure you make the belt tigh enough use a crowbar.

Its reall easy to replace thealt. on your engine- real easy.
I did once before my swap but I believe its only the belt, one plug, and then the two mounting bolts.

Are you sure its the alternator? -- sounds like it could be a bad connection or something? Im sure phatty or somebody could answer that

If the alternator was whining, then that could be it. Its really easy to drop it out the bottom. There is i think two 12mm bolts, and then a 14 mm bolt on the bottom. Plus the connector is a 10 mm bolt i think. Should take about a half hour or so total. Good luck.

i had the same problem with my old alternator to, just all of a sudden the battery light would pop on here there on me but would never stay on, so i tested it at my shop and sur eenough it wasnt pumping out the amperage it should have been, so i replaced it adn it has never happened since.
but to replace the alternator you need 10mm, 12mm, and 14 mm sockets, ratchet, pry bar, jack, jack stand 19mm(for lug nuts)
first off i got mine done in 15 minutes at my shop with using air tools and a lift, so probably gonna need to take 30-45 minutes at home on jack stands.
First thing to do is disconnect the negative battery terminal(very very important) next take off the 12mm bolt on the top of the alternator and loosen it adn pull the alternator towards the fron tto loosen the belt, take the belt off. then jack up teh left sid eof your car adn take the wheel off and undo the splash guard on that side. then crawl undo with your 10 mm and 14 mm sockets. now undo the 10mm bolt and pull the electrical red wire away then take the other electrical connector off(mine was a green connector) then undo the lower alternator bolt which is a 14mm then wigle the bolt out of the alternator, then pass the alternator through the wheel well, this way you do not have to take the alternator brakcet off, which can be a bitch. then installation is the reverse of taking it out, have fun!
