sorry to hear about your luck but some classes in driver improvement would keep this from happening. like an x-cross class or scca class. it will help in keeping your car under control and not over correct when something happens unexpected.
My Baby's been totaled! AARGH! advice please
Well, my 2003 with 117,000 miles has been totalled. On the way home from work last week a van drifted into my lane on a freeway onramp as we were going around a tight curve. I braked hard, rear end broke loose, fishtailed a couple times, then two feet in and I stuffed it into the bushes on the side of the freeway.
No mechanical damage, but front bumper and top needs to be replaced. Headlights as well. And almost all body panels need repainting because of scratches.
So Progressive has decided to total it. I don't have an offer from them yet. I'm thinking about buying it back and fixing it. Especially cause I can get parts from Honda at a discount as a relative works there.
Aftermarket parts were wheels, exhaust, intake, and factory front lip. I get $1000 of extra coverage without paying anything extra in premiums.
Questions:
1. What's the downside of having a salvage title?
2. Can I still get collision coverage after it's been fixed?
3. Who's a good experienced softop installer in the SoCal area? I'm thinking of a Robbin's top.

might i add to the downside of a totalled car is that... if you do plan to resell it, the price will be considerably lower than the KBB value... personally, if i was going shopping for a used car, i wouldnt even look twice at urs, but thats IF your planning on selling it. I'd say, take it as a total loss, if you can part it and sell it for more, do it (only if you can sell it for more), and just buy another used?

well you just have to break them in. start in the kitchen then work your way into the living room, then to the bedroom, until finally you take over the whole house. then they won't care if there's something in the driveway/garage/attic they will be more concerned with getting the oil pump off the bed and the engine you're rebuilding out of the bedroom. :hugIf you have space, and your housemates/parents/girlfriends won't drive you insane for having part of a car falling apart in the yard/garage/driveway/attic(?).
I went through the same problem man. I ended up buying mine back from insurance and building a track car. GL with your decision.
Sorry to hear about what happened, man. I guess it all depends on what you plan on doing with it in the future. If you plan on moving on to another vehicle down the line, selling a car with a salvage title will be a tough sell, and you'll get very little for it. But if you want to keep it until it's been beat to pieces, then by all means keep it and rebuild it. Or you can buy it back, part it out, and buy another used one. Essentially a recap of what everyone else has already advised... If the chassis is in good shape, I'd certainly think about rebuilding it. If the chassis is damaged at all, then it's best to part it out.
