hi guys, this is my first post and im 15 right now and about to get a car so i can learn off of... im also going to drive this through high school and college... oh yeah and this car is a 93 civic SI... anywho, i was wondering what engine would be good for it?? obviously speed is a factor but i was wondering if an ls/vtec or a b18c1/b20 would be safe for daily drives... if not, i was wondering if building up a b18c1 would be a better idea... thanks a lot... oh yea, and what are the mesh wheels volk makes??!! is it the winning?? i forgot but it does have a center cap so im sure its not a se37... thanks again!

pretty much any of those motors would be safe for daily drivers, although ls/vtecs can be kind of tricky to build - they can't really handle the super high RPMs that the other motors can, from what I've heard (I might be mistaken though).

congrats on the 93 si, good place to start (dx would be the lightest, but personally I really like having a sunroof)

here's what you do get a d16y8 off of a 96-00 Civic Ex, thats only gonna run you about 800-1000 bucks. build that shit up a lil bit, strap on a nice turbo kit and you'll have yourself a "12 sec SOHC v8 killer". you could do the same to any engine b18c1, b16a2, b18b, or maybe a H22a. yeah slam in a h22 turbo the sit out of it and see if you can catch Steph.

oh yeah bean the CX and VX are both lighter than the DX

hehe... well didnt really get it YET ;) because im still looking aorund... i got about $8-12000 to spend and it depends on how much i work! my plan was this... spa yellow paint (cheaper if its a factory paint), those volk wheels that i was talking about, a b18c1 swap with a drag gen three turbo or a b18c1/b20!! basic bolt ons, used integra R seats, and a really small sound system! i know it would exceed it (actually idont) but it is a plan... but as for now, i just want to know the best (reliable, fast) engine, and learn to drive semi-beast first!

everybody always overlooks the D16Z6, and those are in the 92-95 civics, so swapping one in wouldnt be hard, just a new ECU and harness, but a b18c1 wouldnt be to bad, theres a guy around here who has one, and it hauls ass in his 95 hb.

haha, I think that might be a little over your budget.. The wheels alone will probably run 1200-1500 bucks, depending on which ones they are (assuming that, b/c they're Volk) A b20 swap is more money than you think, b/c in order for it be able to rev higher, you're gonna have to build the internals so it can handle it.. Just b/c you see "B20Z longblock: $799" doesn't mean it's gonna be cheap, as I was once told.. A legit b18c1 will run probably around $3300.. The turbo kit will also run about $3000 (brand new, depends on where you get it though).. The R seats will probably be a small chunk of change (I was looking into them a while back).. PLUS the cost of the car itself, and the paintjob.. Personally, if I were going to paint a car, I'd want a quality job.. I'd also want to pull the motor and have the engine bay sprayed too.. (I think it would look a little strange to have a Spa Yellow pearl Civic with a teal green engine bay, ect).. haha, I'm just trying to give you an idea of how much it'll all cost :D ;)

Get an h23 block and rebuild it with performance parts. will cost 2k at the most(depending on what kind of parts u get).

All those engines are fine. I am going to get a b16a2 from a 99-00 SI. 167 factory and then add a Vortech supercharger, 277hp at the wheels dyno proven, with stock motor. Engine plus install run you around $4000 and Vortech charger and install around $4500. So you are close to budget already. Get a 93 hb and for around $3000 and you are still under your limit and fast as hell.
