It is a centrifugal supercharger. Similar to the Vortech. If I remember correctly, the Powerdyne is interally belt driven and the Vortech is internally gear driven. Both are run off of the crank.

If I remember correctly, the Powerdyne is ONLY for the pre '95 Civic's ('91 or '92 - '95). It sounds like a good system, but haven't heard much about it or seen it in action. I would recommend the Vortech.

I have seen and heard of about 15 replaced ments on those. The internal belt wears out too fast.
