Looks like I may need a new alternator (MAY, don't know yet???).

Whenever I turn the car off (like at 7-Eleven tonight), when I go to turn it back on.....nothing.

It's strange...there's not even a "starter click". But the headlights are still bright, the radio still works, windows, ect...I dunno what the hell is wrong, and why the car isn't even *trying* to turn-over.

So, I'm guessing I'm gonna need a new alternator.

Are there any other alternators from C-Series (mine is C27), or even the 6th Accord V6's that I can use (from a junkyard) that supply a higher amperage output???

Will a Legend, TL, CL, or NSX alternator supply any more amperage than the one on my 95 Accord V6????

Thanks.

Also, do any of the above use higher quality spark-plug wires or ignition systems that I could apply to my car?

If your alternator is dead, you can still start your car off the battery.

Sounds like your starter is having problems.

If it was my starter, then why would the car start when I get a jump-start from another car?

If the starter was bad, wouldn't it just not start at all?

Also, what about a "starter disable" from the alarm system?

The car was all "fixed-up" when she bought it a few yrs ago (rims, springs, system, I.E., aftermarket alarm, ect...but her dad couldn't driver it b/c it scraped the driveway and took EVERYTHING off it and made it *stock*)....when I was hooking up the foglights (which had been totally disconnected), I was looking under the drivers side dash and found an alarm "brain", and some other clear-plastic device with a red LED, and a "knob" in the middle. But I couldn't identify what it was.

Could there have been a "starter kill" wire that I dislodged when hooking up the wires/switch for the fog lights??

The car starts in the morning just fine....I even turned it off after driving to AM-PM to get soda, when I came out it started right up.

BUT, after driving home through N.Hollywood, (drove for about 1hr). I stoped the car in a shopping market. Came out, and the damn thing wouldn't start again! Luckily I got a jump-start from a lady within 10mins.

 Guess I'll have to take it to Autozone and have a "charging system check", in which they'll come back and tell me I need:

*new battery
*new alternator
*new cables
*new terminals
*oil change
*air-filter change
and, a free tire inspection.

FUCK, I hate going to those rip-off B.S. centers.

Ok, if your battery was dead, why would headlights come on, but the starter didn't even click?

I can't make sense of it that's for sure. :)

Good luck and let us know what you find out!

look for alterstart on ebay, that's where I got mine from, fixed all of my problems, I killed the stock battery in 3 months, and my optima was starting to get tired, after about 6 months, so I decided to upgrade the alternator and haven't had any problems since.

his ebay id is [email protected]

I paid $170 for a 180amp alternator(i think the gen6 is like 90 or 100A stock and the gen5 is 65 or 70)

he has 135A alternators for the gen5's going for like $150

but if you went w/ a higher amperage alternator, wouldnt that suck up more power? isnt that why people underdrive their alternators? it just seems like that would be the opposite of what we are going for.

No, alternators are what "recharge" the battery while you drive at highway-speeds.

Higher amperage alternator will "recharge" the battery with more amps/volts/power than a lower amperage one.

Ever seen a car with a REAL competition sound system? I mean the big vans with walls of 15" subs and ten 1000 watt amps? They've usaully got 2 alternators and in outdoor competitions they'll turn their car on and rev their motors to assure their battery's have enough power.

a higher amperage alternator will take more HP away from the car, only when the battery isn't charged all the way. An alternator tries it's hardest to maintain a certain voltage, once that voltage is reached the alternator will almost be free floating. So for people like me that put a huge demand on their power systems, with stereo, power invertor, dvd player and the rest of my toys, when all of my stuff is on, the higher powered alternator will do a better job of maintaining the voltage on the battery, making a longer battery life, better system stability, and no more freakin dimming lights. the stock just couldn't keep up, it was so bad that when the bass hit I could feel the car stalling out from lack of juice. At idle when I cranked my system up the voltage would drop as low as 12.8v which is not good. That's with an optima blue top and a 1.5farad cap, when I had a 15farad cap it wasn't as bad, but it took longer to recharge that cap, instead of the lights dimming real quick when the bass hit, they would dim, then ramp back up to fully lit because it took some serious juice to recharge the 15farad, that's why I went back to 1.5.

Short and simple, will a higher output alternator take HP away from the motor? under load yes, under no load it will be minimal. So if you are getting ready to race and you shut all of your toys off and you have a good battery the higher output alternator will have negligable effects on your performance.
